Sister Imperator came to show me the way to the dinner hall and where to sit. On the way there, I noticed she was smiling.
"What are you so happy about?" I asked, trying not to sound rude.
"I'm happy that you're here."
I gave a questioning hum.
"Papa's been in a bad mood recently, to say the least. You're making him happy, and frankly life is easier for everybody in the church when he's happy." She giggled a little bit.
Her saying that gave me a strange, fuzzy feeling in my stomach.
When we reached the dinner hall she showed me to my seat which, unsurprisingly, was with Copia and the ghouls. There were many other members of the church sat in the hall, including those women I had seen at mass with Sister. I was sat right next to Swiss and Papa.
"Well damn," Swiss sighed. "Nicholas and I are wearing the same thing, looks like I have to change."
His joke got a good couple of giggles from the other ghouls and Papa. As Swiss laughed, I could see a black painted mustache peeking from his upper lip.
"I hope you weren't too bored today." Cirrus said to me.
"Oh, no I was fine. Before I watched you guys practice I gave my mom a call for my birthday-." I immediately regretted mentioning it. I hated my birthday, let alone telling strangers about it.
"Oh my gosh! How old?"
Cumulus gave her a light smack on the arm. "You shouldn't ask that, it's rude."
I laughed. "No, it's alright. I'm thirty today."
In unison, Sodo, Aether, Rain, and Swiss all said "Dirty thirty," bursting out into laugher and high fives.
"Ignore them." Copia said, rolling his eyes.
"Well, Papa, how old are you?" I asked, getting a lot of ooooo's from the rest of the table.
He seemed suprised that I asked. "Do you want a joke answer or a really answer?"
Everybody responded "real" at the same time.
He sighed in resignation. "Forty one."
"Age gap relationships can work." Sodo shrugged, earning a punch from both Swiss and Aether at the same time.
I must have turned red, as both Sunshine and Cirrus started giggling when they looked at me. Great. To my suprise, Copia was laughing. I shot him a look and he quickly stopped, regaining interest in his dinner. Now I've got to change the subject. Just my luck.
"Have any of you guys seen eachother's faces? Just curious."
The ghouls all looked around at eachother as if they had forgotten they were all wearing masks.
"We could have, but we'd never know." Mountain shrugged.
"We were all promoted from being Siblings of Sin so we may have known eachother, but our names were changed and all that fun stuff." Rain chipped in.
Makes sense. Less the anonymity part and more the part about the names. I can't say I've ever met anybody seriously named Mountain before.
"Papa's seen our faces though."
Copia looked up when his name was mentioned, and once he realized what we were talking about he nodded.
"Yes, I have. Sister Imperator and I are the only ones who know their identities."
"Which is a shame because I'm gorgeous." Muttered Swiss, jokingly.
