One week later.

I wake to Alfie crouched by my bed, stroking my cheek to wake me.
"Alfie that hurts" I groan rolling over the other way.
"They bothering you that much?" He says, but I pretend to ignore him, in hopes of getting a bit more sleep.
"Last day of it babe, come on we don't want to be late." Suddenly I remember, today I get my wisdom teeth out. I've never had surgery before and it terrifies me. Alfie isn't allowed to do it himself, but knowing he'll be there and that it's his workplace comforts me a little, so I roll back over and get up. "You cant eat anything before the surgery, but we got an early appointment so you should be alright. We'll leave in half an hour."
My jaw throbs with pain so I clutch at it while I head to the bathroom. It hadn't started hurting till Alfie insisted on poking round at it nearly every day- I know its not really his fault but I need someone to blame.

The shower managed to refresh me, so I get into Alfie's car and he drives us to the office. My stomach is in knots, and I'm not sure if that's hunger or anxiety. The way there Alfie talks me through the procedure, he says I'll be semi-sedated so it isnt too scary, but I won't know what's happening. He assures me he'll be right there when I'm done.

We get to the practice and he holds my hand and proudly walks me in.
"Hey Claire! Appointment for Sophie Adams?" Claire looks at us both and smiles, "it's so good to finally meet you Sophie! You're in room 3 with Dr Stewart, he's already in there waiting." Alfie takes me through and greets the doctor.
"Hey Clark! I didnt realise it was your Sophie in today." The dentist turns to me and shakes my hand "good to meet you, Clark here never shuts up about you. I've said he can sit in the room while we do the procedure, but legally he can't assist I'm afraid. How's your pain been today?" As he talks Alfie guides me over to the dentist chair and Stewart sets up the equipment. "Not great. I'll be glad to get them out thats for sure." Two more doctors enter the room and we share similar greetings, then Stewart instructs Alfie to sit down so we can start. I can see Alfie picking at his fingers - I've never seen him anxious like this. It's strange seeing a dentist so scared of dental work.
"Right. Let's begin."
