Hakui Koyori, the most valiant Researcher of HoloX; only the smartest being to ever exist. Today on Christmas Eve, I was assigned by our leader to gather data on a "potential" Demon Lord of the Alternative World.

Currently, he's heading back to his apartment after buying food and drinks at the mall for hours. Obviously, he's using the things he bought for Christmas, which is only about an hour and a half away.

" Subject is walking alone in a dark alleyway. No signs of any paranormal activities as of now. Over."

Chloe: " Even though he's alone? Is it possible that Charmy noticed you following him?"

" It's possible, but he hasn't turned around once to check if someone's on his tail. Over."

I'm currently talking to Chloe on my earpiece while cautiously keeping eye on the Subject in front of me.

Chloe: " Well~ A demon lord is a demon lord after all. I'm sure Charmy might have noticed you the second you started following him."

" ... Didn't Lap-chan tell you to stop calling him by that name?"

Chloe: " Oh, shush. We don't have time for arguing about names. Just focus on your mission! We gotta find out Charmy's real identity, you know?!"

' Even though he's "potentially" a demon lord, the rest of the HoloX girls are getting more and more obsessed with him. As the smartest of the group, I'm often the only one that takes the mission seriously.'

I sigh.

" If you say so..."

Chloe: " Good~ Oh, and go to the Headquarters as soon as you're finished, okay? We'll be spending Christmas with everyone, after all."

" Yeah, I'll be there. Over." - I reply to her with a subtle smile.

Chloe: " Okay! Say Merry Christmas to Charmy for me. Bye~!"

" Ha? You know I'm not--!"

Before I could even finish, Chloe cuts off her communication device.

" I can't believe this girl..." - I said as I sigh for the second time.

It had been snowing in Japan for over a week, and deciding to go on this stealth mission while wearing my regular outfit is the biggest mistake ever. I can't help but shiver every time a gust of cold wind runs through my face.

' Is it even worth it at this point? I've dug my research about his real identity and nothing of him showed about him being a demon lord. Born from his regular human parents, went to a regular human school, became the most popular streamer in Japan, and basically doing nothing but regular activities every single day!'

" If he's just a regular damn human, then why was he in the Alternative World during that time...?" - I said to myself, getting more and more confused by each question that goes through my head.

As I was busy blurting out questions inside my head, I failed to realize that the guy I was tracking was no longer in sight. In a huge panic, I snapped out of my thoughts and immediately left the pillar I was hiding in.

" Awawawa... I was too careless!" - I started running as fast as I could to catch up to him.

' He's gotta be still close! His apartment is just a few blocks away!'

When I turned left while running, I tripped on a huge pile of snow on the ground, causing me to lose balance, and ended up falling flat on my face.

" Ouch..." - The only word that came out of my mouth.
