It was the first day of October. Café Coffee Day was filled with customers while the tattoo shop was more or less, empty.

Revelyn and Kat were on the move the whole day. They couldn't even afford to take breaks during their shift. Their shift started at 9 a.m. in the morning, it was 3 p.m. at the moment.

"One Pumpkin Spiced Latte, one hamburger and one milkshake for table no. 13," called out Suzzane.

"Why the hell is everyone obsessed with pumpkins and pigs here?" Scott exclaimed.

"I'm fed up of preparing bacon and ham and pork sandwiches! I'm starting to get sick now!" Zoe mumbled, trying not to let the customers know about her frustration.

The café sold the best sandwiches and burgers in town, almost half of their sales were brought about by sandwiches. So, they couldn't just take that off the menu.

Kat reached the kitchen with empty glasses on her tray. She dumped them into the sink and rushed out the kitchen and took the receipt from Suzzane and hurried to the customer's table.

Revelyn was impressed by how quickly she could catch up with the pace of the café.

The commotion died down by 4:15 p.m.
Revelyn and Kat, a bit breathless, sat down at a table in the corner of the café.

"HooOof, what a day!" Kat said, wiping sweat off her forehead with her sleeve.

"Yeah," Revelyn said, observing Kat.

She had her head tied up in a ponytail, with 2 strands of hair coming out from both sides. She wore an orange shirt with denim jeans, hidden below the apron, Revelyn had to tie once again that morning.

"Are you single?" Revelyn asked out of the blue.

"Yep. As single as a Pringle!" Kat exclaimed. Suddenly, the scene of them in the Staff Room popped up in her mind, and she got incredibly shy.

"I broke up with my boyfriend yesterday..." Revelyn said, remembering the chaos in the apartment Deven caused the previous day.

"Oh, I'm so sorry..."

"You know the waitress who quit a few days ago? Her name was Caroline. She was one of my closest friends. My boyfriend cheated on me with her."

"Oh my God, that must be so....painful. Judging from what your boyfriend did, I must say, he is a pathetic man."

"I had loved him for-"

Revelyn was cut off by Dilam and Karina entering the café.

"Hey Kat!" Karina exclaimed excited. She went to Suzzane and placed her order.

"I'm really sorry, my friend is here. I'll talk to you after our shift gets over."

"It's totally fine. I'll take her order, you can go talk to them."

"Thank you Revelyn."

Karina and Dilam sat down at table no. 17 while Kat approached them.

"You got off work early?" Kat asked.

"Yeah...the customers stopped coming at 12 p.m. so we sat idle for 3 hours. Our boss let us go have a break. This is Dilam by the way."

"Hi Kat!" Dilam greeted her with a smile.
Kat waved her hands and smiled at Dilam. The man was stunning, no wonder Karina is head over heels for him.

Revelyn arrived at the table with 2 drinks.
"One Iced Caramel Macchiato and one Mocha Java Coffee. Enjoy your drinks."

Kat smiled at Revelyn gratefully, then turned to Dilam. Revelyn's words roamed in her mind throughout the whole conversation.

Revelyn appeared to be brave and careless from the outside. She couldn't have guessed she was going through a breakup if she hadn't told her about it.

"Karina has told me a lot about you.." Kat said, ignoring the glare Karina was giving her.

"Oh! I hope it's nothing bad."

"No, not at all!" Kat said, remembering how  Karina was gushing over Dilam the previous day, about how handsome and intelligent he is. Dilam chuckled.

They talked for a while, before Kat got up and took away the empty plates.

Revelyn came to the table to take the money.
"Our break is going to be over. We are going back. Thanks for the drinks!" Dilam said, reaching over to the door handle and opening it for Karina.

Karina blushed at the gesture as she waved bye to Kat.

It was 9 p.m., closing time for the café. Suzzane handed over the keys to Revelyn, asking her to lock up.

"...and we broke up. I got out of his apartment, so I have no where to spend the night. I was going to sleep at the café tonigh-"

"You can come to my apartment! I live alone and I have a guest bedroom for you to spend the night in."

Kat wondered how she could suddenly offered a girl she met the same week to live with her, that too on impulse.

"You really don't need t-"

"You're coming with me! I'm not going to let you sleep on the floor at the café tonight. It's not safe. Where is your stuff?"

~

Kat opened her apartment and Revelyn's nose was hit by a pleasant smell of lemons, which reminded her of Kat. Kat led her to the guest room.

"I hope this room is fine for you."

"Of course it is, thank you so much!"

Revelyn smiled at Kat.

"Mention not! The bathroom is there, I hope you have fresh clothes for the night?"

"Yes, I have them in my suitcase."

"Good! My room is just beside yours. You can call me if you need any help. You can take water from the kitchen tap. There is a new toothbrush on the top shelf in the bathroom."

"Alright."

Kat left the room.

Revelyn stepped inside the bathroom and turned on the shower. Warm water started falling down. She took off her clothes and stepped into the shower.

"Ahh," she sighed. She tried her best to forget about Deven, but she couldn't help remembering him. She burst into tears, thinking about how both her best friend and the love of her life betrayed her together.

She started searching for soap and found a lemon scented soap on the shelf. It looked unused. Everything was lemon flavoured in the bathroom. The shampoo, the conditioner, the body wash, even the toothpaste. Revelyn giggled, when she saw a post-it on the wall.

"When life gives you lemons, make lemonade, and sell it to all of those who get thirsty from complaining." - Napoleon Hill
