~6 years after LiS season 3
Ever since the battle for Alpha Centauri, no rogue or hostile robots had been seen. The ones that remained habited nearby planets or onboard the Resolute. Only special cases were permitted on the new world, like Scarecrow, who'd been revived, and Robot of course.
The robots that were on the Resolute were watched carefully; after SAR's rampage nobody was eager to let them roam unchecked, even years later. So a solution was proposed: change the robots fundamentally.
The planet the robots had hailed from had at last fallen apart, so finding out how they were created was impossible.
Maybe that was part of SAR's plan too.
Many of the robots on neighboring planets were captured and deactivated. Researchers quickly discovered they would be unable to create more robots from scratch, so they wiped the memories of the ones they had and modified them to their liking. The final design was smaller, around six feet, more streamlined, had less poky scales, and had prehensile tails.
One thing was consistent; the robots were completely independent. It was near impossible to make them complete tasks. According to the tamer of these odd critters himself, Will Robinson stated that the only way he'd found was to save their lives during their darkest hours.
These newer models failed. Breaking and repairing proved to be inefficient, costly, and risky. Problems arose when the robots were found to be intelligent enough to realize this plot. The only success story here was A37-R2, which had a programming mishap when a particularly frustrated scientist went too far with the destruction portion of the experiment.
A37-R2 was the last model to be tested, and all predecessors had been destroyed completely. After the robot was found to be obedient and docile, it was put to use for the Resolute.
