(A/N- Ah, yes. The inevitable cat chapter. Let's face it, you all knew this would happen at some point. Okay, onto the story!)
You laid on the ground, stomach to the floor and book in front of you. You legs swung back and forth in the air, coolness flowing over them.
Alphonse was currently elsewhere. You assumed he was trying to avoid you after his sudden hug from the night before.
Rain was pattering against the library windows, but it didn't bother you. You were fine with regular storms, in fact usually they helped you sleep. And you absolutely loved the smell of rain.
Your eyes moved swiftly over the pages. You had slept in due to the deprivation of sleep during the first half of the night, and the peaceful rain hadn't helped either. You looked up when you heard a scream, followed by what sounded like a stack of books falling over.
"Sheska?" You called, looking in the direction of the scream.
"(Y/n)! Help me!" Sheska called.
You quickly stood up and ran over to her location. When you found her, you held back an 'aww'.
Sheska was sitting on the ground, a small white kitten was playing with, well, tackling, her yarn-hair. It was one of the cutest sights you had ever seen. Sheska looked up at you, eyes pleading.
"(Y/n), don't just stand there! Help me!"
You walked over and carefully plucked the kitten up.
"Yoink!" You said as you did so. "Hey there little cutie, where'd you come from?"
"I was just looking through the books since I got all my work done, and I suddenly got tackled by it!" Sheska told you.
"It just wants your yarn. Any idea what it's doing in here?"
"No clue, but I just want to read! I can't do that getting tackled by a kitten!" Sheska cried.
You laughed lightly, holding the feline firmly in your arms.
"Don't worry Sheska, I'll take care of it." You moved towards the door of the library and made your way into the hall. You looked back down at the cat and rubbed under its chin.
"You really are a cutie, aren't ya?" The cat licked you with its sand-paper tongue. You sighed, "So cute. Until I know what your real name is, if you have one, I'm calling you Spook."
The kitten purred, what you guessed to be a sign of approval.
After walking through the halls for a few minutes, you began hearing shouting.
"What do you mean you lost it!?" Edward was shouting.
"Well, I turned around to get it some food and water. But when I turned back it was gone," Alphonse said.
"It just wandered off!? What if Winry and (Y/n) don't like cats!? Heck, I don't even like cats!"
You put a protective hand over Spook. There was no way Ed was throwing her out in the rain. Winry wouldn't mind a cat. She was a dog person, but she was also fine with cats. It was similar to how you were a cat person, but you also liked dogs.
"But it was wet and hungry! Why can't we keep it!? We have enough food and water for it!" Al shouted back at his brother.
"Because you didn't ask me about it first, that's why!"
"For Pete's sake would you two stop yelling! I can't concentrate on Ed's new arm if you're yelling at each other!" Winry shouted at them.
'New arm?' You thought. You heard the door to the room Winry was in slam shut.
"Now look what you did, Winry's mad at us now," Ed said, a little quieter.
"At least she's making you new automail. That older model is hard to maintain," Al said.
"Stop trying to change the subject from the cat. You're gonna go find it and ask Winry and (Y/n) if they're fine with it before I'm letting you keep it," Edward grumbled.
You silently walked towards the door of the room Winry was working in.
"Really!? I can keep it if they say it's okay!?" You heard Al happily question.
"Yeah, knock yourself out."
You opened the door and walked into Winry's room. Winry was crouched over a workbench, focused on her work.
"Edward, what did I say about interrupting me while I'm working on your arm?" She said without looking up.
"Did you say bingle bongle dingle dangle lickety do lickety da ping pong lippy tappy to ta?"
(A/N- I swear if anyone knows what I'm referencing I'll be so happy!)
She looked up from her work and turned to face you, smiling.
"Hey (Y/n), nice to see you out of the bookworm cave!"
"Yeah, yeah. It's nice to see you found a way to work on automail here," you replied.
She chuckled a bit, "I finally convinced Edward to let me start from scratch on that busted up excuse for automail that he has for an arm. I'm having so much fun making it! Wait a minute, why are you holding a kitten?"
"It was attacking Sheska's hair in the library when I was reading. I was looking for someone to ask what it was doing in here, but then I heard the brothers shouting about it, then I heard about you making automail and I got curious. And distracted," you said. Spook meowed in your arms, and you quickly added, "I've dubbed her Spook."
Winry grinned. "Nostalgic much?"
"U-um Winry? Are you okay with having a cat in the cast-" you heard Alphonse ask, entering the room, before stopping when he saw you. He stared at you for a few seconds, then started backing out of the room again. "I-I'll come back later."
"Wait, Al! I have your cat!" You ran over and grabbed his arm with the hand not holding Spook.
Al's face erupted into a blush when you did so, but he did stop.
"O-oh, thank you. U-uh, about last night," neither you nor Al saw, but Winry's facial expression changed to one showing her mind was headed towards the gutter.
"Alphonse, it's fine. In fact, I actually really enjoyed it," you told him. Winry's expression got worse, and now she was trying not to laugh.
"R-really?"
"Really."
"Okay, I'm really happy about that! You, um, you don't mind if we have a cat around the castle, do you?"
"Only if we get to call it Spook."
"I was thinking of naming it that anyways, since you told me that's what one of your cats from when you were little was named," Al told you. He looked over at Winry, "You don't mind having a cat in the castle either, do you?"
Winry giggled slightly, reason unknown to either of you. "Go right ahead."
"Th-thank you!" Alphonse bowed politely, before gently taking that cat from you and going to tell his brother that he had gotten the 'okay' from you and Winry.
As Al walked back out of the room, you turned back to Winry to see her giving you a suggestive look.
"What?" You asked confused.
"What did you two do last night?"
"Al hugged me then ran off."
Winry continued her suggestive look, and your face went up several degrees in temperature as you figured out what she was implying.
"Oh my gosh Winry! Get your mind out of the gutter!"
"Was it a 'special hug'?"
"SHUT UP! YOU'RE PROBABLY MAKING ED'S AUTOMAIL ARM CAUSE YOU LIKE LIKE HIM!" You squealed.
Winry blushed a little, looking away.
"How about we don't tell anyone else about this conversation."
"Yeah, I like that plan! I'm excited to be a part of it!"
(A/N- Who ya gonna call!?*distant cheer of 'Ghostbusters!'*
I'm not sure why I made that last part happen. It kind of just popped into my head, and I just rolled with it. I was probably just tired from my Youth Retreat, and hyped up on sugar from the big bag of candy I got on the way back. I don't know. Thanks for putting up with my randomness. Next chapter is going to be so fluffy it's not even funny. But first I need to research how to ballroom dance.)
