The last of the demonic smoke poured out of one of the "church-goers'" mouth before falling into the anything but lively grass.
Dean Winchester audibly let out a sigh of relief as he lowered his shotgun, his younger brother next to him, equally glad that this was over. They might not have gotten there in time to stop the seal from being broken, but at least they tried, and saved most of the town while doing it. He and Sam exchanged weary looks before stepping away from the unconscious, and some dead, bodies that laid on the ground. It was a hard job, but they couldn't spare a tear for every soul that was lost.
Castiel had disappeared mid-battle, leaving the boys to fight on their own for a bit. He was being a major help, even though he was God's little kiss-ass servant. He was the one that informed them of the seal and how it was planned to be broken. Lilith had sent demons to posses the town's people, or some of them at the least, and turn them all against each other brutally. There was only one way for this to end and that was bloody.
The brothers hauled ass to their vintage Chevrolet Impala, Dean hunkering down in the driver's side while Sam strapped in shotgun. The only problem they had now was paying the bill for their motel room, seeing as one of the demonic victims was the motel manager. They learned that the hard way when he came bursting into the Winchester's bedroom no earlier than two-o-clock a.m. with an ax in hand and full black eyes. Not a pretty site their room was after that fight.
As soon as the engine of the black muscle car roared to life, the familiar flapping sound was faintly heard coming from the backseat. The eldest Winchester looked into the mirror and spotted their angel, Castiel, back from whatever the hell he was doing. Dean paid hardly any mind as he pulled the car off the curb and started steering it down the pavement. His brother, however, had different plans as he turned in his seat and looked back at the godly creature, "Hey, Cas, where'd you disappear to?" He asked.
"I had to provide help for a victim," Castiel stated, looking at Sam with the same monotone expression as always.
"Just one? We were saving them in the dozens." Dean commented, obvious annoyance in his tone.
"I apologize for my recklessness."
"Don't worry, Cas, the more lives we save the better." Sam said with amusement to his voice, a small smile on the usually neutral lips of his.
The angel riding in the backseat nodded, looking less guilty and more, well, more "Cas". He looked out the window, then back at the brothers, saying; "I have high hopes for this town re-building itself after this. It seems as if--" He cut himself off, spotting the familiar head of vibrant read hair sprinting down the sidewalk, waving the car down frantically.
Confusion clearly stuck the Winchester's, and the angel's, faces as they watched the girl. Dean steered the rumbling Impala over to the side of the road as his younger brother used the crank to lower the window, Castiel leaning in between the brother's seats to see her clearly. Why had she returned? He asked himself. The young woman that looked around the age of seventeen grabbed onto the door with an iron grip, leaning down to see the boys faces, her breathing heavy, "I need help! My mother is dead and my father is dying."
Sam's face turned serious and Dean's continued curiosity as Castiel just stared.
"What do you mean?" Sam asked, looking up at her with worry.
"I-I went to my father's church and he was passed out in the front lawn. He's dying." She just about broke down in tears, obvious loss having already happened to her. One of the other signs of her loss was her clothes that were painted with blood.
The two boys traded glances before sending Cas a look, knowing that they couldn't do anything about it, but that Castiel, as an angel, had the power to heal. The girl caught on to their looks, because next thing she did was get a closer look only to see the angel in the back, her eyes practically snapping wide as she stumbled away from the door.
Dean furrowed his brow and snuck a peek at the girl before focusing on Cas, "Does she know you?" He asked quickly in a whisper.
"I healed her," Cas said, looking at the older brother.
"So, this is that innocent you saved?" Sam pitched in.
"I don't think she's done being saved yet . . ." Dean's voice trailed as he looked at Sam, then back to his angel, "You should probably get to fixing Cherry Apple's daddy then." He said, making a reference to her odd colored hair.
Castiel nodded before appearing outside of the vehicle in the blink of an eye, right next to her. The girl screamed a bit and looked at him with eyes that looked like they would just about fall out of her skull if they were any wider.
Castiel just ignored her scream and walked over towards the church to heal her father. The girl looked back at the Winchesters before following the trench-coated angel reluctantly. As soon as they were out of sight, Dean looked at Sam with a smug grin, making his younger brother already roll his eyes, practically reading Dean's mind.
"She is quite the catch, isn't she, Sammy?"
"Shut up, Dean."
