I was only sixteen years old when I became one of them. I have been killed and rejoined my family to start a new life. Mother and father were sad to see me knowing I was no longer alive and living the life they had wanted for me. My sisters had joined them years before me, all in different ways.
Now that I have become a grim reaper I must collect souls "Olivia you have another one" my boss William called "Yes sir" I responded. This was a young and very unhappy soul, she wanted to be someone else, and to be honest, I did as well. Everyone I worked with wore unique glasses over top of their emerald eyes.
"My my darling, why do you look so down my lovely rose," said my father "what is the matter I wish to help" I looked down at my feet before responding "daddy why do I look so different, my eyes are an ugly brown while others have green gems as theirs" I almost cried while my father was taken aback. Then he told me that I would learn to love myself soon enough.
Months later I spoke with my sisters and mother, my eldest sister Lexi was in charge of choosing who goes to heaven and who goes to hell, Angel was the gatekeeper of heaven while Aria was the gatekeeper of hell, and London helped me in collecting souls. "Did you hear?" Lexi said, "hear what" London replied "father had to collect the soul of a young man who hated that he wasn't like everyone else" Aria stated. I looked down at my lap silently, I think they knew why I was upset. "Olivia, go visit Vincent. I think he could help you" my mother said calmly.
As my mother had instructed I had gone home to see my little brother. Just as I knocked on the door he had answered with his normal smile "Olivia?! You're alive" he said confused " yes I am but I'm now a grim reaper" I said sheepishly to my young eight-year-old brother "is it my time to join you as a reaper" he asked frightened. "No" I responded, "not yet Vinny".
Vinny had always looked out for me since mum had become a reaper like father "so what are you doing here Liv" Vincent asked "mum told me that you could help me with a problem I have" I replied to his question. Vincent had already known I didn't like how I looked so he knew how to help me.
"Let me guess, you don't like something about your appearance don't you" he questioned. I simply nodded in response and he sighed, as he hugged me he said the same words he would say whenever I complained about how I looked, "Olivia, no two snowflakes will ever look the same, you will never look like others, your brown smoky quartz eyes shine brighter than any diamond I have ever seen" Vincent said almost a whisper.
With that phrase I finally accepted the truth, I will always look unique, and different, and I will always be myself, not just a simple reaper blending in with hundreds of others. I hugged my brother, thanking him for reminding me why I'm different and will always be different. "Thank you, Vinny, you will always be a good person, always help someone in need when they dislike how they look," I said, shedding a single tear.
Dear Vincent,
My darling brother, thank you for all you have done for me after our mother and father had died. You have reminded me time and time again that I am unique and I will always be special. We all love you for that.
