By the way, this is set in a fantasy (kind of) world.
Komaeda Nagito was a great thief. No one knew why he stole, why he was so good or how he had never gotten caught. He was feared by the rich and admired by the poor since he only ever stole from people who had more than enough. Sometimes, if he stole more than he needed, he'd give people who were as poor as him some of it.
He wasn't the strongest or most intimidating man, but he was fast, intelligent and lucky. Of course, he was wanted. Dead or alive. There was a bounty on his head, but no one had managed to hurt or let alone catch him so far.
"Catch the thief!" A rich man shouted as Komaeda jumped out of his window, carrying a bag. He laughed as the guards began chasing after him on their horses. He ran through a small alley in between two houses where the horses weren't able to fit through. The men jumped off and chased after him on their feet. He grabbed onto a balcony and pulled himself up. He climbed onto the rooftop and began to run again. Komaeda jumped from house to house until the guards finally gave up.
He jumped off and leaned against a wall. Komaeda let out a relieved sigh and opened his bag when he suddenly noticed a man standing next to him.
"Woah!" He yelped.
"Sorry, did I scared you?"
"It's fine, no worries,"
"You looked like you were in a hurry. Do you need help?"
He shrugged. "I think I should move. The guards in this town all know and hate me,"
"You can live with me,"
"I don't even know you,"
The man shrugged. "If you prefer getting caught and going to jail, that's fine by me, Komaeda Nagito,"
Komaeda's eyes widened. "You know who I am and still want to help me?"
"Of course I do. I've investigated your cases. I'm a police officer and I know you don't steal from people who need what you take to survive. I must say, I admire that a bit. You don't let your desperation get the best of you,"
"I'm not desperate. Anyway, what do you want in return for letting me stay with you?"
He smiled. "So you're coming with me?"
"What do you want?"
"Hm... obviously, money isn't a choice for you. So could you maybe cook and clean?"
"Huh? I'm not a housewife!"
"You are now. Let's go!" He began walking away and Komaeda followed him.
"What's your name?"
"Hinata Hajime," He replied.
Komaeda nodded. "Just so this is clear, I don't trust you, Hinata-san. I'm just agreeing to your conditions,"
"Hold onto me,"
"Why?"
Hinata got onto a horse. "So you don't fall off." He held out his hand and pulled Komaeda on top of the horse too. The pale man put his hands on Hinata's shoulders and the horse began to run.
It took a while, but they arrived at Hinata's home. It wasn't a mansion, but much bigger than anything Komaeda could even dream of affording. Hinata went inside and dragged Komaeda with him.
The white-haired man nervously took in his surroundings. He didn't know Hinata and he didn't know where he was.
"The guest room's over there." Hinata pointed to a door on the left.
"Are you gonna turn me in?"
"No. I really don't care that you steal. Everyone's making it a bigger deal than it actually is. I'll buy you new clothes, yeah? The one's you're wearing look a bit... old,"
Komaeda furrowed his eyebrows. "Why would you give me something? I've never done anything good for you,"
"It's called being nice,"
"It's suspicious,"
"You don't have to like it, but I'm not gonna let you run around in ugly clothes like that,"
"Excuse me? My clothes look good,"
"Whatever helps you sleep at night..."
