Qingcang walked towards the center of the matrix. Reacting to his presence, a series of prismatic heptagrams emerged into view from the darkness. A sinister, golden light shimmered along the interlocking seals and traced out each intricate detail in full relief. From one level to the next, their complexity ranged from difficult to byzantine. It appeared no limits had been spared by the Emperor of Heaven and his cronies when it came to imprisoning him for all eternity. He gazed at them in contemptuous silence.

"Where are you going?" demanded Orchid. "Don't! It's dangerous, there's lots of spells...you're going to hurt my body! Stop!"

Qingcang stretched out his hand to touch one of the seals.

"Hey, wait a minute! Hey!"

He vanished.

Orchid was speechless. In disbelief, she blinked once, twice, thinking that her eyes had played tricks on her. He was really gone.

Perhaps he had disappeared into another dimension although her guess as to where was as good as any. She had no idea you could travel in between places within Haotian Tower. Vaguely, she was aware some prisons had grouped cells where prisoners could freely go from one to the other, rather than being isolated in their own blocks. So if Qingcang was able to slip away from their jail section, perhaps he had left to explore who else was being kept here. After all, she reminded herself, things were not always what they seemed when it came to this place.

Any demon who had been imprisoned alongside the infamous Moon Supreme was bound to be someone to be reckoned with. Haotian Tower had nine levels to it and with any luck, there were bound to be loads of demon-prisoners. If Qingcang was truly as powerful as the legends claimed and he could rally them all to the mutual cause of escape, then the idea of destroying the prison itself was not totally out of reach.

Orchid rubbed her hands in anticipation at the prospect.

But...

She suddenly felt remorseful. If Haotian Tower was compromised, it would place the Heavenly Realm and all the fae at risk. How could she even face the Emperor for colluding with somebody like Dongfang Qingcang?

And yet—she couldn't help it—she was so looking forward to breaking out of this awful prison.

Hopeful, she waited for a long time, keeping a watchful eye on the matrix and expecting the Moon Supreme to suddenly appear with a majestic contingent of demons who would break down the walls of Haotian Tower. But hour after hour passed with no sign of him.

It was as if he had abandoned her entirely.

The very thought filled her with dread and she began to worry in earnest, wondering if she'd even get her body back.
