The school was buzzing with excitement. It was the day of the RaveN and all the students were running around getting ready and making last-minute plans. You, Larissa, and Marilyn were in charge for the night, the other teachers just normal chaperons. Your main goal had been given to you directly by Weems: to ensure no one spiked the punch bowl like last year. You were to watch the students and the bowl like a hawk. You wouldn't disappoint your lady, but your actual goal was much different. You were more concerned about getting a dance with a particular white-haired goddess.
You knew it was a bit risky to ask her for a dance in front of the kids, but you were pretty sure they had started to catch on to the little relationship you two had begun to develop. You were constantly with her and had lunch with her nearly every day out on the grounds. They didn't know you were officially a thing, but with a school full of teenagers, you knew rumors were spreading quickly. Larissa, surprisingly enough, didn't seem to mind. She was happier than you or anyone had ever seen her. She was smitten and you were starting to really believe she didn't care who knew. You knew she wouldn't turn you down for a dance, at least one.
You were in the conservatory, pruning some roses you were planning to give to Larissa when you went to pick her up at her door that night when you heard the door open. You didn't bother turning around, knowing who it was.
"Getting some flowers together for your lover?" Thornhill said. You sighed in return.
"Hi Marilyn," you turned, smiling at her.
The last few weeks had been tense, but you were trying your best to maintain a good relationship with her. She did care about you in her own way and you appreciated it and truly did respect her. You showed her the roses and she looked at them, an eyebrow raised in questioning.
"What do you think?" you asked, turning them so she could see all sides. You had decided not to hide your relationship with Weems from Marilyn, even though you two didn't exactly speak of it either.
She looked them over and she nodded, a small and only slightly forced smile on her face.
"You're very talented Y/N," she said.
You smiled and plucked one of the roses from the bunch, extending it to her. She looked at it for a moment before gingerly reaching out and taking it. You put the rest on the table to wrap later for your sweet Larissa.
"What's this for?" she asked, turning it in her fingers.
"To let you know I appreciate you. I know things have been weird the last few weeks, but you truly are my mentor and I want you to know I don't think I could be here without you."
You may have been laying it on a little thick, but you were so excited for the dance and to see the woman you loved and just that you were here at all. Your heart was full and you wanted to share that. Marilyn's whole body relaxed and she tilted her head, flashing her very soft Thornhill-Esque smile. She reached out and grabbed you in a hug, holding you tight.
"Y/N, it makes me so happy to hear you say that. You and I, we're a team. It's all I want, for you to know I am here for you. "
You smile in return. You didn't necessarily see you and Thornhill as a team but you knew she saw you as a daughter figure in her life and you didn't want to hurt her feeling by debating it. She hugged you again, this time squeezing you before letting you go.
"Hey! You know what I was thinking? What if I helped you get ready for the RaveN? Do your hair and we can walk in together," she said, looking you over and straightening your shirt from where she hugged you.
Your smile fell. You knew you were about to upset her.
"That sounds like so much fun," you said "but, I am walking to the dance with Larissa."
