𝓑𝔂𝓪𝓮𝓰𝓲𝓼𝓸𝓯𝓱𝓮𝓻𝓶𝓸𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓻, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, Lady Laena Velaryon had Targaryen blood, though she did not bare our name until her marriage to Prince Daemon in the 115th Year After the Conquest.
Originally a match was proposed by Lady Laena's parents to my father, King Viserys I Targaryen, who went on to wed Lady Alicent Hightower, my mother. Whispers claim Lord Corlys Velaryon was not best pleased by this arrangement but Laena was unbothered, preferring flying to boys or Kings, she was a child then so few could blame her. And then Lady Laena was betrothed to the son of a Sealord of Braavos — from what I have heard, the boy was quick-tempered and spoilt by his wealthy parents. When the Sealord died, Laena's betrothed squandered his father's money and power and came to Driftmark. There, for a substantial number of years, Lord Corlys repeatedly found ways to postpone their wedding, unwilling to let it go through but unable to gracefully break the betrothal.
When Prince Daemon arrived on Driftmark, the singers claim he fell in love with Laena, although other reports believe he saw her as a means to further his ambition. I cannot state either as fact but it should be noted Daemon cared greatly for his second wife: she was an equal to him. He insulted Laena's betrothed until the boy challenged him to a duel, in which he was killed by Daemon with Dark Sister, a longsword of Valyrian steel. Laena wed Daemon a fortnight later.
Aware that the King and court would disapprove of their marriage, and therefore they would not be welcomed, Laena and Daemon flew on their dragons — Caraxes and Vhagar — to Pentos. From there, Daemon and Laena travelled far across the continent of Essos to any worthy city. Eventually, they returned to Pentos, where it was discovered Laena was with child and they remained for the remainder of her pregnancy. In 116 AC, Laena gave birth to twin daughters, Rhaena and Baela, as fiery as their mother.
During the middle months of 119 AC, a raven came to King's Landing to inform The King and court of Laena's second pregnancy. Cups were lifted in honour of Daemon and Laena — discontent for their marriage dissipated over the years, it seemed. Although it was not until the first few days of 120 AC that Lady Laena went into a troublesome labour. Following a day and night of labour, a choice was presented to Prince Daemon: the mother or the babe. Quite impossible, the Gods were cruel that night. Despite the issues surrounding it, the birth did not deal the killing blow. Vhagar, under its rider's command, killed Laena with her deadly Dragonfire.
A month on from her passing, her funeral is set to be held on the island of Driftmark at High Tide, the Velaryon seat constructed by the Sea Snake. All of the court is to attend along with the family of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, the sister-by-law to Lady Laena.
