Chapter 11: Checkmate

Me and Vigra portal into a black and white castle. This looks cooler than the other ominous evil citadels. I spot a girl with dark skin, black and white hair, black and white eyes with square pupils, and glasses.

"Who are you 2?" she asks.

"I'm Dom, she's Vigra" I introduce.

"Bianca Diamond" The girl introduces.

"Your eyes look cool" Vigra adds.

Her eyes look like a check- no, chess board.

"Your not from here- are you? Well, In this world you pupils show you destiny- mine is chess" She replies.

"What if your destiny is time travel?" I ask.

"Your pupils would be clocks" Bianca replies.

"Fate?" Vigra asks.

"Hourglasses" Bianca relies.

Sick!

"We came from another world because my brother here can travel all over the multiverse" Vigra says.

I jab her in the elbow. TMI! TMI!

"Ok- have either of you played chess before?" Bianca asks.

"Nope," I reply.

Vigra shakes her head in agreement.

"What the heck did you play as a child?" Bianca asks.

"I didn't really play it was more like 'learn how to use your powers in an entertaining way or else you'll break reality' kind of stuff" Vigra replies.

"I played 'find food and money on the street or die'," I add.

Bianca sighs and shakes her head. I hear maniacal laughter behind us. I turn to a girl with pale skin, dark brown hair, and a black outfit with hints of white.

"Welcome back to my chess game, Bianca! I see you found some new pawns!" Crystal laughs.

Bianca looks angry. I wonder what happened to her.

"So- we need to play chess against Crystal Shard or we get killed," Bianca explains. Bianca gets on the queen. I mount the black horse. Vigra stands on top of the castle.

"I have no idea how chess works," Vigra says.

Neither do I. I glance at the chessboard in front of us.

"See the tallest piece, that's a king- if the king gets taken down by a piece then it's game over, the king can also move only 1 space at a time. The slightly shorter one is the queen- the queen can pretty much go anywhere. Bishops can-" Bianca explains.

"Why does Bishop sound like a cuss word? Also my bishop is frowning" Vigra interrupts.

I giggle. Bianca glares at me. She sighs and continues

"Bishop's can only move and attack diagonally, also they can move backwards unlike pawns. Pawns can move 2 spaces on their first turn, attack diagonally, and only move 1 place forward per turn. Horses can only move in an L position and only attack what's on the L square" Bianca explains.

Makes sense.

"White plays first," Crystal says.

Bianca gulps nervously. Crystal sends one of her pawns forward. Bianca sends a pawn from the other side of the board. What is she doing? Crystal sends a pawn next to her current pawn.

"Your destiny is chess! Show her how it's done!" I cheer.

Bianca's checkered eyes are wide open. What will we do? Crystal and Bianca keep sending pawns. Bianca sends her left rearmost pawn towards Crystal's castle. Crystal uses her horse to take the pawn. The horse is in the castle's path.
