The bus slid to a stop, I stared out at our school. Luke stood waiting, hands in his pockets he glanced at the bus and quickly looked away his blonde hair bouncing. I grit my teeth, and waited until the other students stepped off the bus. Shouldering my bag I walked down the aisle and stomped down the steps. Quickening my pace, a firm grip caught my arm, spinning me around, my hood fell from my face and a cool burst of air filled my lungs.
"Ryder, I know you hate me... but can you please listen to what I have to say?" Luke whispered, staring into my eyes.
I glared at his hand, slowly he released his grip sliding his hand back into his pocket, He shrugged. Looking at the ground.
"I think we need a do over, maybe we could go out for dinner and talk."
Anger surged in my stomach, after what he did I would never forgive him! I stared.
"People do not simple forget being pushed off a building, Luke," I growled.
He shifted uncomfortably, the bell rang. I pivoted and walked towards the school doors.
"Wait!" He yelled.
Foot steps sounded after me. I rolled my eyes.
"Leave me alone Luke!" I said waving a hand dismissively , "Or I will tell the police what really happened,"
The slap of shoes against pavement subsided slowly. Jack and Cole held the door open.
"wait up!" Cole yelled, running to catch up to me.
"Ryder, what you doing Friday?" Cole asked, rubbing the back of his neck while following close behind me, Jack chasing Cole's heels.
I glanced at my shoes, and quickened my pace.
"Um... I have loads of homework! Maybe next week?" I said evasively, looking away.
Cole stopped.
"Oh, Well ya maybe next time?"
I looked at him, faking a smile.
"Yeah,"
He nodded.
I turned the corner, and hesitated in front of my grade 10 science class. I could hear Mrs. Jacobs, talking her mindless blabber. Slowly I reached for the handle. The door swung open, I stood face to face with the notorious Jasmine. scowling I backed away.
"Oh finally, The amazing Patricia Ryder arrives! After a week of skipping, we've all been worried sick!" she smiled, smoothing her pink skirt " Lets just hope you don't freak and break a door again, wouldn't want to screw up your flawless reputation once again," she said straitening her blouse. Pushing past me she headed down the hall her ponytail swinging behind her. I clenched my fists, reluctantly entered the room, and quietly closed the door behind me.
"Miss. Ryder you've decided to join us I see," Mrs. Jacobs sourly spat.
I rolled my eyes and took my seat at the back. Hanging my bag on the back of my chair, I pulled on my hood and stared blankly out the window at the rising sun. I rest my cheek against my palm. Tuning out everything the teachers say.
...
The bell rang, waking me. Everyone scurried out the door before Mr. Scott dismissed us. I blinked the blur out of my eyes and shook my head.
"And that concludes our lesson today" Mr. Scott my socials teacher whispered shuffling his papers. Grabbing my bag I stood and headed for the door, Mr. Scott glanced at me from under his glasses.
"Can you spare a minute Patricia, I need to speak with you."
Frowning I nodded And shifted my stance.
He shook his head. Came to the front of his desk and leaned against it after a minute of silence he spoke,
"We know." He mumbled.
Crossing his arms.
I cocked my head. My heart beat faster.
"Know what?" I asked, gulping loudly.
He tapped his fingers on his forearm.
"We know what your hiding."
My stomach twisted, is he just joking around? I looked at my feet.
"What exactly am I hiding?"
I glanced around looking for a escape route, He sighed.
"I know your stalling."
I smiled and shook my arms.
"Can I ask what your going to do if I run?"
He looked down, then in my eyes.
"I can't give out our plans, but I can say there is both a hard and a easy way in doing this, so I am sure if you run, your probably choosing the hard way... It may become a little, challenging."
I shook out my limbs and smiled.
"Maybe I like a little bit of a challenge."
I turned and bolted out the doorway, most likely they will have the front and back guarded so my best bet is to, I turned left, heading for the print room, get onto the roof. Once on the roof I will have to jump, but that wont be a problem. Reaching the print room I climbed the stairs, heaving the wooden latch off and pushing the door open, the change of lighting blinds me for a moment, focusing, I am surrounded by about 12 heavily armed men dressed similar to swat, but swat was replaced by the letters, S.A.I. The man with a large badge on the right side of his chest jabbed his gun at me,
"Hands in the air" he said In a voice muffled by the helmet he wore.
I frowned and slowly raised my hands. What went wrong? I thought it all out! Unless they know exactly what I can do, I hadn't thought about that! I silently scolded myself as they searched me for weapons, my bulky sweater not helping the situation.
"Patricia Ryder, we need you to come with us" The same man said, emotionless. I shook my head.
"Sorry, i'm quite busy today, lots of things to do but i'm free saturday" I say mockingly. My wings shift against my back, was flying even an option? Would they just shoot me out of the sky before I even gained enough altitude to get away? Could I learn to fly in a matter of a few seconds? I shook my head flying is officially not a option. The man looked past me and nodded, I turn around in time to get whacked in the forehead with what I believe was a bat, I spin dizzily falling to the floor, blackness swallowed my vision.
