~ Storybrooke ~

Rachel Gold was the daughter of Mr Gold, but she was nothing like him. She was kind to the people in the town, always helping out when she could.

Everyday she would wake up at 7am and do some tidying up, normally from her late night paintings or baking and start to make breakfast for Mr Gold in which it would then be 7:15. She would then read a book whilst eating as her father gets up for his day work. Around 7:30, she would head to Granny's to grab herself a coffee and one for Regina which she would drop off at her office before going to clean her house.

After that, she would go back to Granny's to get Regina's and Mr Gold's lunch and drop them off before doing some errands for them such as fresh flowers for Regina's house and office and a few new paints for herself, or even a new book. Later, she would meet up with Mary-Margaret, her best friend, and they would volunteer at the hospital together.

She enjoyed her life and her daily routine, but she did want to explore the world and see various places. Anywhere other than Storybrooke would be ideal to her. Even Boston would be better, four long hours way from this small town where everyone knew everyone.

Rachel was walking home in the evening down the Main Street when she saw Henry with a woman and a yellow car. She made her way over to them, "Hey Henry! You alright? Where have you been all day?"

Henry smiled, "I'm fine Rachel, just went to find my mom," he nodded to the blonde haired woman next to him. "Hi, I'm Emma. Do you happen to know where he lives?" She asked Rachel who nodded and was about to say when Archie came up to them. "Henry! What are you doing here? Is everything all right? Hello Rachel,"

"I'm fine, Archie." Henry said as he stroked Pongo, the Dalmatian that Archie owned. "Who's this?" Archie asked gesturing to Emma. "His mom, he went on a field trip which is going to get him grounded and means I'll be babysitting him more often now," Rachel said raising an eyebrow at Henry who looked down guilty.
"You know where he lives?" Emma asked the two people she just met.
"Oh. Yeah, sure, just uh, right up on Mifflin Street; the Mayor's house is the biggest one on the block." Archie answered. Emma looked at Henry annoyed, "You're the mayor's kid?" She said is disbelief. Henry looked guilty again, "Uh, maybe?"

Rachel shook her head and bent down to Henry's level, "Henry, you can't go on field trips without telling anyone. Next time, let me know okay?" Rachel winked at him and stood up. "Okay! Well, I really should be getting him home." Emma said.

Archie nodded, as did Rachel, "Nice meeting you Emma. If you need anything, let me know. I'm always around to help," Rachel said holding out her hand for Emma to shake, which she did. "Thank you, Rachel,"

Archie said his goodbyes and he and Rachel walked away. It wasn't until Rachel turned around and exited the diner that Emma noticed just how long the woman hair is. "So who are they meant to be in your book?"

"That's Rapunzel and Jimmy Cricket," Henry explained. "Right. The lying thing. Thought your nose grew a little bit." Emma said joking

"I'm not Pinocchio!"

"Course you're not. 'Cause that would be ridiculous." Emma said sarcastically as she got into her car and drove off.

The next day came and everything was out of Rachels normal time frame. She woke up late, her alarm didn't go off, so then she was running late to grab Reginas coffee. She rushed to get ready, apologised to her father for not having breakfast ready, "Sorry dad, I'm running late, I'll cook dinner tonight instead," she said giving him a kiss on the cheek and running out the door.

She got to Granny's at the normal time eventually, where Ruby held out the two coffees. "Running late today, Rach?" Ruby teased the blonde girl. Rachel laughed, "My alarm didn't go off, which is strange considering I've been waking up everyday at the same time,"

Ruby smiled at the woman who was about to take her coffees when her phone rang. Rachel pulled out her phone, "Sorry it's Regina, can you grab me some breakfast to go please?" she asked Ruby as she picked up the phone.

"Rachel, Henry is missing again, I'm headed to the sheriff's station, don't worry about cleaning or bringing me coffee" Regina said and hung up before Rachel could say anything. She sighed and turned to Ruby who had the coffees and breakfast ready, "Henry has gone missing again, so Regina told me not to worry about cleaning or running around after her today thank god," Rachel said and sat at the counters. "Wow, a day off for Rachel! That never happens! What do you plan to do?" Ruby asked. Rachel shrugged and took her coffee and breakfast. "Go home I guess. Paint, read a book, play chess, paint again." Rachel said listing off some hobbies. Ruby smiled, "Well have fun with that Rach,"

Rachel nodded and left Granny's.

The next day, Regina sent a text to Rachel telling her to not bother cleaning again. To be honest, Rachel was thankful. Yeah, she loved being busy but she hadn't had a couple days to herself recently and was glad she could spend the whole day painting.

Rachel went about her day until it was finally the evening and she was having dinner at Mary-Margaret's after they visited the hospital. They were talking about their days and about Emma when all of a sudden they heard a knock at the door. Mary-Margaret got up and opened the door. " Hey, just wanted to say thank you and, um, pay you back the bail money." Emma said sighing.

"You look like you need to talk, come in. Rachel and I were just about to have hot cocoa." Mary-Margaret said as Rachel got up to make their drinks whilst they sat at the table.

Mary-Margaret put Emma's hot cocoa in front of her as Rachel sat down. "Cinnamon?" Emma questioned taking a sip. Mary-Margaret brought a plate of cookies over, "Oh, I'm sorry, I should have asked. It's a little quirk of mine, do you mind?"

Rachel picked up a cookie and offered one to Emma, "No thanks, when you bailed me out," Emma began, directing her conversation to Mary-Margaret. "you said that you trusted me, why?" Mary-Margaret shrugged, "It's strange—ever since you arrived here, I've had the oddest feeling, like we've met before. I mean, I know it's crazy."

"I'm starting to reevaluate my definition of crazy." Emma stated. "For what it's worth, we think you're innocent." Rachel smiled taking a sip of her drink. "Of breaking and entering, or just in general?"

"Whichever makes you feel better." Rachel laughed, as did the other two women.  "Doesn't really matter what anyone thinks I did or didn't do. I'm leaving. Thank you for everything, but I think it's for the best. If I stay, Henry's only gonna keep getting hurt." Emma said, she had obviously been thinking about it all day.

"What happens if you go?" Mary-Margaret said and Emma was silent. "I think the very fact that you want to leave is why you have to stay. You care about him. Who will protect Henry if you won't?"

They all finished their drinks before Rachel looked at her antique watch on her wrist, "Oh no, five minutes until I have to be home, thank you for dinner Mary-Margaret," Rachel said getting up to get her jacket which hung by the door. "Curfew? Aren't you an adult?" Emma questioned. Rachel sighed, "Yeah, I'm 23 but my father is a strict one, he doesn't like me being out late in the dark alone. He just worries," Rachel smiled. "I'll see you both tomorrow, have a good night," she waved goodbye to the two women who returned the goodbye.

Emma turned to Mary-Margaret, "Her father is Mr Gold right?" she asked. Mary-Margaret nodded, "She grew up very sheltered from what she's told me. She was kept in her house, was home-schooled by Mr Gold and once she was 18, he started to let her help out in the shop and then she slowly started to run errands for everyone." she explained. Emma frowned, "Poor kid,"

"Yeah, she isn't always the smartest but she's very helpful to everyone around, she helps me with the kids all the time, everyone loves her," Mary-Margaret smiled at the thought of Rachel.
