"Yes!"
I watched as Lana pumped her fists into the air as the final ball gave a victorious bang! and landed in the middle of the angry Wolves.
Sofia stretched out her arms immediately, anticipating a hug, but William, oblivious to her presence, thumped his hand on my back instead. My lips threatened to deepen my dimples, but I clamped them shut, glancing at Sofia worriedly, fearing that she might pull the cutter on me again. Her face darkened like clouds before rain, and she huffed, crossing her arms and legs to pull them close to her body.
The crowd around me gave a loud cheer, throwing up arms and sloshing drinks everywhere. People wolf-whistled and couples made out on the spot. I looked up to see Andy grinning at me, his bangs falling into his eyes again, and for some reason, I knew his smile had nothing to do with the Owls winning.
We locked gazes, and time seemed to stop just for us, blocking out all sound the stadium was providing. I suddenly noticed how the soft, pale green lining his brown irises made his eyes stand out, turning the world bright and beautiful. Our connection only broke when Jacob elbowed Andy in the face as he stood up to yell Lana's name, earning a reproachful look from Ryan, but whose expression was quickly replaced by jaw-slacking, opened-mouthed awe as the crowd chanted Lana's name along with Jacob, and Lana did the unexpected, throwing her tightly-panted ass to one side and waving at the guys, who were drooling as if someone had unhinged their mouths.
Finally, their girlfriends decided to smack them back to their senses when Celia decided to join the pose, and started pulling them out of the stadium.
The stadium was half empty by the time the team had shared a big group hug and filed off to the changing rooms. I followed the other subs off the stadium, giving William and Sofia a quick wave, and, deciding to make it clear to Andy to wait for me at the entrance by frantic gestures, and walked off towards the small door to the west of the court.
"Can you believe it?" Lana was folding her numbered shirt neatly and throwing it into the growing pile.
"I can't even," Celia was fanning herself with her hand, even though she had only a sports bra on. "The guys were too hot!"
Lana rolled her eyes, but her mouth stayed smiling.
"Stop it, Celia, you're making us all puke," Georgina scowled as she pulled a shirt over her six-pack.
"I can't believe it either!" Allison leaned on the lockers, ignoring the now bickering Celia and Georgina. "We won! The Owls won!"
"Hey," Alicia slung her bag over her shoulder. She was the only person in the room who was frowning. "We've only won one match. We have like three matches to go. Don't be too happy just yet."
"That's why she's not in our gang," Georgina whispered audibly. "Too bossy. That bi*ch."
With that, she returned to yelling at Celia.
Alicia opened her mouth, hurt, and tears started darting down her cheeks.
"How dare you!" Tasha looked livid, dashing over to her friend, numbered shirt still on and pulling her out the door. "And by the way, its not Alicia that's a b*tch, its all of you!"
Her eyes swept over Lana, me, Georgina and Celia, who froze in mid bicker, and slammed the door behind her.
Lana rolled her eyes.
"Dramatic," Georgina whispered again.
I tore off my shirt and pulled on the tank top on the hook above me, wanting to leave as much as an ant under a finger.
"Hey guys I'm leaving."
No one paid me any attention except one of the nicer subs, who gave me a vague wave and turned back to her clothes.
I literally ran out of there, feeling my heart speed up as I passed the court and pushed past waving people I barely knew, and arrived at the entrance of the school, where Andy was standing, that glory and all, eyes glinting as he took me in.
"Hey," he said, smiling. Perfect was an understatement to his beautiful face.
"H-hey," I stumbled over my words as I pointed my head down a little and looked up into his eyes.
"My car's this way," he said pointing to the lot. "Forgive my crappy driving. I just had my driving test last week."
I smiled and shook my head. Things seemed too good to be true.
I fell into step with him, amid whispers of the trickling crowd around us.
"Alex? She's leaving with Andy?"
"She's dating him?"
"What? Alex is my one and only! No jock can ever compare-" a guy I had not even met before started jabbering away to the girl beside him, who was clearly annoyed. The perks of being popular.
"Here."
I felt relieved as Andy finally opened a car door and gestured for me to go in. I willingly obliged, quite aware of my reddened cheeks from the reflection in the windshield.
Andy was cranking up the car by the time the guy who was creepily whispering about me had ran off after the girl, whose tears were falling faster than the Niagara Falls.
My embarrassment was immediately replaced by nervousness as the car turned out of the school. Why hadn't I brought a friend with me or something? Oh, but that would have defeated the whole purpose, wouldn't it? But why had I said yes to having a date in the first place? Because your friends are dating people at least once a week and you are the only one who don't? And maybe because you'd noticed him taking an interest in you since the start of the semester and never really put it into your mind? And maybe because he is quite hot?
Ed Sheeran's voice calmed my nerves down a bit as the volume of the radio was turned up. I spun around to find Andy lip syncing to the lyrics, occasionally whispering loudly when high notes kicked in. I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow as I prepared myself to laugh.
He stopped, and watched as the first giggle escaped my system.
"Why'd you stop?" I asked amid nervous hiccups.
"You're cute when you do that," he said seriously.
"Do what?" I asked, suddenly rigid.
"That laugh and those dimples," he said, turning back to the street. "They're perfect."
I blushed the millionth time of the day, a smile bursting the banks of my cheeks.
"Where are we going anyways?" I asked, pushing my hair back to hide my pleasure.
"It's a surprise," he said, smiling mischievously.
"Just tell me," I pleaded.
"Then it won't be a surprise," Andy's hair turned bright gold as the sun decided to catch it whenever it had the chance.
I sat back as he returned to his lip syncing, and felt that nothing could ever go wrong on a wonderful day like this and a hot guy beside me.
