They say "everything happens for a reason"
But what if you had been there?
Watched me grow up
Play with my hair
Telling me your utterly ridiculous stories
The ones that put little girls to sleep
As they drift into the land of dreams
What if you had been there?
Showed me proper affection and care
Would my love life be such a mess?
But the saying goes "everything happens for a reason"
The way the sun rises and sets
The way the leaves shift colors on autumnal days
The way every snowflake catches your gaze
Every little detail has a purpose
One shift would set a chain reaction
One I can't guarantee would be a safe transaction
Still, what if you had been there?
Well, it's fifteen years too late
And I heard they say "everything happens for a reason"
