CHAPTER XI

Cassandra POV

It's been two weeks since my first day here and everything is going well. I get there at eight. David tells me my plans and I go around my floor checking everyone's work. At lunchtime I go to Artemis we have it in the usual cafe across the building. We don't talk about what's so ever. we just speak about work. I go back to my office and she goes back to hers. I finish my work at nine. Goes home and the circle repeats.

Today I have this meeting with the managers finally I am meeting other people here. "Did you prepare the papers I told you to do?" I ask David as we head to the elevator. " Yup all in this file" he shows me the grey file. "Okay," we get in the elevator. I can't help but fidget with my fingers. "Hey" David reaches for my hand. "Don't be nervous everything will be fine" he assures me still holding my hand. He only let go when we arrive at the meeting floor.

It consists of big rooms surrounded by glass walls. You can hear People talking but their voices are blurred.
I follow David as we go past a couple of rooms until we arrive at the last one. There are people in already. Omg are we late? David opens the door for me. Everyone stops talking when they look at me. I just noticed I am the youngest one here and the smallest. Their glares are terrifying.

Shortly after I find a seat Artemis enters followed by jack. We all stand up. She extends her arms telling us to sit down. She sits at the head of the table with Schleiden standing behind her with a tablet. I noticed all five managers have their secretaries standing beside them. I glance at my side and David is doing the same as well.

"Before we start I want to welcome our newest manager miss Cassandra Chapman" Artemis declares and everyone turns their attention to me.
"Please introduce yourself to her" she orders. "Michelle Waine manager of marketing" the first guy interdouces himself with a smile. They all do the same .

Louise production, Anthony research and development, Damon sales. The last one is Seth technology & equipment or what David calls her the toy maker.

"It's lovely meeting you all" I greet. With a big smile, most of them smile back or just nods. "Okay to begin Seth what about you show us our latest work in the lab" Artemis offers "sure ma'am" Seth stands up turning on the whiteboard. "Wel-"

ACHOO!

My eyes widen and reach for my phone muting it. "Sorry"
Seth goes back to what she was saying.

ACHOO!

I hear a groan from Seth and everyone glares at me. Artemis extends her hand to me I nervously hand the phone to David and he gives it to her.  "hurry before she sneezes this time" she jokes putting it in her suit jacket. everyone chuckles even Seth. she starts with her presentation.

The whole time I was fascinated with the technology she was showing and the advanced implants they are developing. "Very good Seth and Cassandra you know how much this equipment will cost us," she asks me and David starts looking through the file. I look around. "Each?" I ask. "Yes," she nods. "About...."

"Two thousand eight hundred and seventy-five and ninety-nine cents"

Everyone falls silent. David didn't give me the paper yet. I didn't bring the file for myself I brought it for Artemis.
"Are we ready to spend that on our next shipment?" She questions. "Yes, we can even make extra if we like"

I can see her lips twitch up. I smile proudly. "very well at least we know we are not going broke" she jokes and I catch her gaze I know she feels relief about me. David whispers in my ear "you crushed it boss" and goosebumps go up my neck from feeling his warm breath on my ear. "I know" I reply happily. and the meeting continues with every person going up the board and then Artemis asks me if that will somehow affect us financially. 

when we finish the meeting Artemis was escorted in a hurry because she received a phone call. as I was talking to David and discussing a work matter when someone calls. I turn and it's Seth I didn't take a closer look at her. her pale skin and how it compliments her yellow eyes she has her hair tied in a ponytail revealing her undercut. "yes?"

"I just want to say how happy I am to have you on our team" she exclaims although it's a compliment her face is stone cold. "I mean, not every day you have comedic relief as a finance manager, right" she smirks. ow, that hurts. she is taller like really tall her slender figure doesn't help so as I step closer I must look up more. "you are right" I nod backing away "and not every day you have slender man as a technology manager, right" I smile returning the burn. I hear a laugh from behind her and with that, I leave the meeting room with David on my heels.

I enter the elevator feeling furious. David tries to say something but I stop "please. just.....don't" we get to our floor and David steps out but I don't. "I need to clear my head," I say and push the close button I was going to push the bottom floor but I push the ninth instead. what am I doing I can't go and complain to my boss about my employees' problems.

I nervously step out of the elevator. "Cassandra? what is the matter?" jack asks. "hi jack" I slumbly say walking to him. "what is wrong? you did great in the meeting today. why you so sad" he asks and his german really shows making him extra cute. "is Artemis busy," I ask him. "No I guess" he replies.

"Okay thank you" I enter her office. "you are here early it's not lunchtime ye-" she stops looking up from her laptop "Woah what is wrong"                                                                       
"augh it's just one of your manager MANAGED to piss me off," I say stressing on the 'd'. "oh so you spoke to Seth" she shakes her head returning her attention to the laptop. "so you knew she will do that" I reply "Seth always does that with new managers as she is the oldest one, and don't ask me why I have absolutely no idea," she says in a way like she is talking to herself more than to me. I scoff and throw myself on her couch. but then I sit straight. remembering where I am. omg, how did I act so casually with Artemis? she chuckles at me from my reaction. "too late now" 

I laugh at myself. "believe me I am more serious than that" I try saying from laughing "oh I believe you" she nods. 

we sat in comfortable silence. "don't you have something to do?" 

"I finished all the work for today before the meeting because I was so anxious" I confess. " oh okay then" she shrugs. someone burst through the doors. and my heart drop.
