homework...?

The afternoon sun was shining unbearably bright. The hour hands on the clock were pointing to three.

Eva stared out the window.
Kids from first to seventh grade were laughing and hurrying into the buses.
What wouldn't she do? to go home right now.
But alas, national exams are approaching, and after-school classes are compulsory.

Riiiiiiiiiinnggggggggg~~

The bell signaled for the end of the class and students filed out of the classroom.

"Holy lord! Doesn't it feel like we live at school and visit our homes?"

It was Cherin. Eva's acquaintance. But before Eva could reply she went off to talk to someone else.
Cherin always called Eva her friend, but it was far from that.

But what was the use of pondering on such boring,  uninteresting shit?

"Hey did you do the homework?"

Crap.

She forgot. She forgot to write the essay for English.

"Hey, did you do it??"
This time, Eva's desk partner, Milan was begging.

"No, did you?"

"If I did, then why would I ask you?"

SHITTTTT.

English was right after their ongoing break.

Suddenly one of Milan's friends stopped by their desk.

"You idiots are worrying about the essay? Do you not know we have a book talk today?"

"Book talk? When?"

"The book that's on the syllabus, the one that the old lady is too lazy to teach. We got it yesterday, remember?"

"How long is the book?"

"I don't know. I haven't touched it. But it looks like it's a good 500-600 paged one."

"Do you think I can finish reading it in the next 10 mins?"

"That is inhumane"

"How does that old lady expect us to-?"

"Dude. She gave that homework in the regular classes and then gave an essay in the after-school classes."

"WE HAD LIKE-NINE OTHER SUBJECTS WORTH OF ASSIGNMENTS AND STUDYING"

"I reach home so friggin late-"

But what was the point of complaining? They never listened anyway.

"Oi. Wasn't there a science test too?"

...

"I give up. I'll just sell vegetables on the road. Remember on that interview we had to do?- a vegetable vendor said he earned 1,00,000."

.
.
.

And just like that, our brave Eva scraped through another day. The hour hands of the clock were pointing to five thirty as the bell rang and signaled for the end of the day. And Eva started packing up.
Cherin was busy with someone else. But she didn't mind really.

Cherin doesn't use the bus anyway.

So Eva started towards the buses. But just as she was climbing on her bus the school transportation manager flagged her to stop.

"OI. THE BUS ROUTES HAVE BEEN CHANGED TEMPORARILY! SO YOU WILL BE GOING ON A DIFFERENT BUS FROM USUAL."

Why was he so loud? She was standing right there.

"IN FACT, YOU WILL BE ON THE VAN"

He gestured towards a tiny van. Holy shit, it was so small.
She had seen fruitless attempts of teachers trying to fit kindergarten kids in there the other day.

How was it going to fit eight teenagers?
