Interrogation

We had two weeks' time to write and edit the script, and practice giving our speeches. Plus with all the school load, we were getting even lesser sleep.

We referred to icebreaker speeches online and even consulted our guru, Prana.

"It's just like you said, be honest with yourself and refer to other people's speeches!"

That was very unhelpful, she just repeated our words. So off we went to the internet.

"It says here that mention if your name has a special meaning or effect," Vivian said reading from a blog.

"Isn't Vivian a female name?"

"I know it is. How could I not when everyone expresses their disappointment when they find out I'm not a pretty little foreign girl after hearing my name."

I started feeling a bit of deja vu after 20 minutes of scrolling through blogs with a blank google doc. So I settled on a plan.

"Hey."

"mhm?"

"Close whatever blog you're reading right now."

"ok?"

"And full screen this zoom meeting"

"Alright."

"And pin my window."

"as you wish."

"Now. Think of this like an investigation by the police for a crime that you didn't commit. You are the prime suspect. In desperation to prove your innocence, you answer all the questions truthfully."

"So this is the setting I'm i-"

"Mr. Vivian. 'everyone expresses their disappointment when they find out I'm not a pretty little foreign girl after hearing my name.' Are these your own words?" I changed my voice to a serious tone.

Vivian nodded looking exasperated.

"Then we're adding this to your record."

"Hey, do you mean the script when you say-"

"Describe your family and your house."

"I live in a three-story house, near our school. I live with a family of four: my mom and dad, busy business people. So I'm left to take care of my annoying ass younger brother."

"How old is your brother?"

"seven."

"Your hobbies."

"I uhh-like solving jigsaw puzzles, competing in lemon spoon games and showing off-?"

I tried to keep a straight face.

"Any dislikes?"

"bugs and disorganization."

"Any juicy and embarrassing secrets?" I smirked. Vivian immediately turned red and started stumbling out incoherent words.

"well-I.....I mean..... if-"

"Come on. Spit it out loud and clear."

He burst out "I LIKED MY LITTLE PONY WHEN I WAS YOUNGER!" 

I was too stunned to speak.

He started rambling "I was a huge map fan till 2nd grade. I watched it all, including the spin-off Equestria girls, which was bull crap, to be honest, except for that banger song. I listened to all the music as well. But you probably don't even know My Little Pony anywa-"

"Who was your favorite? And also Equestria Girls was amazing, don't you dare slander it." 

I sent him a glare, well something of a glare; my stoic expressions and lack of movement of facial muscles might have made it misunderstood.

"I have the right to slander it, and to answer your question, my favorite was Twilight Sparkles."

"Mhm, my favorite was Pinkie Pie, and according to this one Tumblr post, if your favorite is Twilight Sparkles- You admire Twilight because she is the ideal. She is what every parent wants their child to grow up to be. She is student council president with straight A's and who doesn't seem to have a flaw and (to your envy) is completely confident in herse-"

"I didn't know the police used Tumblr posts for reference."Vivian raised an eyebrow.

"Well now you know, and stop interrupting me. Only speak when spoken to."

"And I think the police are more polite than that." He pouted.

Wait-he pouted? I had to do a double take on analyzing his camera. I squinted my eyes, it was hard to tell what his facial expressions were, with him wearing that beanie, mask, and muffler. 

He kind of looked like a burglar. He might as well have worn a ski mask.

And now that I think about it, he always went around with that burglar getup, even in school.

"Hello? earth to Eva?" 

I snapped back to reality, and we resumed the interrogation. But I couldn't stop hypothesizing what his face looked like without the burglar wear.
