22/10/22

That morning I woke up as usual, glancing at my phone to check the time - 7:30. I slid out of bed, grabbing my oversized hoddie from the day before before, determined to find Kylian. After canvasing the kitchen and living room with no luck, I decided to take a seat and wait.

Half an hour later Kylian stumbled in, rubbing sleep from his eyes. He asked me how long I've been sitting there and I lied, saying I had just come. We were both famished so we decided to fix some breakfast together. The task was fun and lighthearted, a reminder of how long we had been friends.

Just as we were settling down to eat, my phone started ringing. I looked down and I saw it was my mom. "Skylar.. Please come home, I have to tell you something.." was all she could say on the other end, followed by a long pause. As Kylian saw how worried I was, he instinctively pulled me into a hug. I promised my mom I would come over as soon as possible and hung up the phone. I looked at Kylian, asking him if he could drive me there. Taking my hand, he agreed and we raced to the car.

The drive was rife with anxious tension, neither of us saying a word. When we arrived he parked, but waited with me, instead of leaving as I had expected. Fearful of what could be waiting inside, I walked slowly in. To my surprise, I found my mom, sister, and brother all crying at the dining table. I was confused but still didn't dare to look my sister in the eyes.

"What happened?" I managed to ask, hoping and dreading the answer. "Sit down sweetie" my mom said before divulging the truth - my father had passed away.

I was engulfed in a state of shock, and my family noticed. My mom hugged me, and I felt her tears soak into my shirt. I suddenly had an overwhelming feeling of guilt, rushing to the door and calling out for Kylian to come. When he saw me and my tears, he just opened the car door for me and we hopped in.

On the drive back, the silence was broken by my sobs. Kylian could tell I was in too much pain to talk, so instead he focused on comforting me, occasionally placing a gentle hand on my thigh. Finally we arrived back home, and I was overcome with exhaustion - both physical and emotional. He ushered me in, following me to the living room. He turned on a movie and I found solace in his embrace, eventually drifting off to a peaceful sleep.

I woke up on Kylian's chest and found tears on my face; he was watching football(soccer) and when he noticed me, he instantly asked me whether I was okay. I thought of lying, but the truth eventually came out--that my father had passed away. Kylian immediately began comforting me. When I inquired about the time, he told me it was about 12 in the afternoon. I told him I'd take a shower and be back soon.

I found some grey oversized hoodie and joggers from my dresser, and of course some underwear too. As I waited for the water to turn hot, I thought of my father and was overwhelmed, tears started to roll down my cheeks. I let myself cry, stayed in the bathroom until the water ran cold before I stepped out. I dried my body with a soft towel and wrapped one more around my wet hair before putting them away. I got dressed again, took some deodorant and perfume that had the same scent, since I couldn't get myself to put on makeup since I knew another crying session would come later. I blow-dried my hair, leaving it down while I walked back to the living room.

Kylian saw my face and arms covered in swollen eyes and red patches, but he didn't comment on it. He just hugged me for a moment, then asked me if I wanted some tea. I sat on the couch, and he brought me a cup of warm tea. He asked me why I never told him about my father; I told him that I was scared he wouldn't understand. But I couldn't have been more wrong; he showed me unconditional care, like a father would do. I knew I could count on Kylian, through thick and thin. Kylian listened to me and he moved closer and hugged me tighter. There were tears all over my face and he was trying to make me feel better by simply giving me a hug. He stayed silent the whole time, and just kept rubbing my back until I finished talking.

I saw Kylian texting someone, as I came back from the bathroom. "Hey I know you aren't in the best mood so what if Neymar comes over and you can invite Kylie?" He asked, I kinda liked the idea of that so I said why not. Not long after I called Kylie if she wanted to come over and she said she'll be here in 45 minutes. Kylian said Neymar would be here in 40 minutes. So Kylian and I went to the nearest convenience store to pick up some things. Sitting in the car, I began to think of this whole situation and tears started to enter my eyes. Kylian saw my tears and he brought me closer to him and hugged me tighter. He stayed silent the whole ride and just kept rubbing my back until we reached the store.

When we got to the store, we quickly grabbed the things we needed and paid for them. We then walked back to the car and when we were home again we put everything away, we heard a knock on the door. Kylian went to open the door and a minute later I saw Neymar and Kylian walking to the kitchen. "Hi ney!" I said and put on a fake smile. "hey sky!" He smiled. We talked for about ten minutes and then we heard another knock on the door. "I'll go get it, it's probably Kylie." I said and went to the door, and opened it. "KYLIEEE" I said and hugged her "SKYYY" she yelled. She stepped in and took her jacket and shoes off. "Let's go to the kitchen, the boys are there" I said to her.

After everything we decided to play some games. We played a team game, two vs two, girls vs boys. We played "draw and guess" which is basically charades. We laughed, goofed around and got competitive. We were even making bets on who was going to win. Of course, me and Kylie won.

After a few hours of games, Kylian asked if I wanted to take a break. He asked Neymar to take Kylie with him to the kitchen to eat something, leaving us in the living room. We talked about what I was feeling and the pain and hurt I was going through. Kylian listened and slowly moved closer to hug me tight and rub my back until I was finished talking. I broke down and he comforted me for the longest time in that living room. He made me forget about my pain and sadness, instead he left me with a warm feeling of comfort and assurance. I felt that no matter how hopeless the situation was, he would always be there for me. This entire experience has taught me the importance of companionship and how important it is to have someone by your side to lean on. I realized that it's okay to show your emotions and not be ashamed of them. Life is full of hardships but with the right company, you can make it through anything together.

After a few minutes of talking, I started crying and Kylian simply hugged me and let me cry on his shoulder. Then I heard Neymar and Kylie coming to the living room. Kylie saw me crying and she came over and comforted me. She brought me water and tissue for my runny nose. They stayed with me for a few more minutes then I finally composed myself and I was able to take a deep breath. Neymar and Kylian started talking about random stuff while Kylie went to to bathroom, it made me smile a little, laughter was in the air and I felt a little better.

After a few hours, Neymar and Kylie decided to go home, Kylian walked them out and hugged them both, as a goodbye. That night I fell asleep with a small smile on my face, while Kylian was next to me. I was surprised to see how he was willing to help me get over this, I thought I was gonna have to deal with this by myself. But I guess that's what real friends do, they support you, even in the hardest of times.  I felt like a weight was taken off my shoulders and all I wanted to do was thank Kylian for being a true friend.
