August 1997The air outside of Tesla Edison's rental car is sticky with humidity. She can already feel the humidity curling the ends of her hair, making it more disheaved. After two incredibly long flights with a layover from England to New York, the girl has arrived in Greenwich Village of Manhattan. Huffing out hot air, Tesla pulls her hair away from her face, ready to put it up.
"Don't worry about your hair, Tess. It looks perfect."
With a glance over the hood of the car. Tesla smiles at Bruce Banner, who closes the driver's side door. Bruce returns the smile, walking over to her. He's wearing a nice pale blue button up shirt. The sleeves are rolled up neatly at his elbows. His hair looks neater than it normally would. He puts a hand on the small of Tesla's back. The two of them face the front of Kimberly and Dan's house. It's a cute two-story house with blue shutters and large windows and a clean front porch. There's a nice, manicured front lawn and a picket fence that matches the shutters.
"Makes our apartment look like a dorm room," mumbles Bruce.
Tesla smirks. "You mean the same apartment that you got your sophomore year of undergrad?" She turns her body to face Bruce, putting a hand on his chest. Her smile widens at Bruce's frown. "It's perfect."
"It's a little small," he admits. Bruce stares down at his girlfriend of four years. "Maybe we should look for something bigger? More permanent."
In the four years that Bruce and Tesla have started their life together. They've graduated from Harvard. Bruce has already completed four PhDs and Tesla two. They've worked for universities, private companies, government facilities, and have continued to work on their own research throughout all of it. More importantly, Tesla has never stopped Traveling. She spends most of her summers in Slovakia, completing missions, spending time with Nick, and working with Bruce on a way to move the Sculpture to a more realistic location. The Sculpture is the hardest task. It defies most laws of physics, and for Tesla, who has a PhD in physics, this frustrates her to no end.
Their friends have all spread out across the East coast. Kimberly and Dan have been living in Manhattan for almost four years. Dan has his own practice in personal training and physical therapy. Kimberly works part-time at a publishing firm. Both of them are based in Manhattan, and they absolutely love it. Betty Ross has been working at Culver University in Virginia for a little over a year as part of their science programs. She seems to be enjoying her time there, teaching students and working in the fantastic laboratories there. She's working on completing her PhD as well. It has been hard for Betty to keep in touch with Bruce and Tesla since they announced four years ago that they were starting a relationship. The three of them are mature about it, and always will be, but Betty could not allow herself to watch Tesla and Bruce live out her fantasy. Stephen Strange, on the other hand, reaches out to Tesla about three times a year. On her birthday, on his birthday, and on New Years. They chat on the phone on those days, but as time goes on, the phone calls have gotten less and less frequent. He moved back to New York City to complete the rest of his residency and hasn't looked back since. Stephen has never said a word about Bruce and Tesla's relationship.
