Mia was sitting on a swinging chair in her room, lost somewhere deep in thoughts. She didn't even realize that her mother is there waiting for her to get up.
It took her a few moments to see her mother who was infuriatingly looking at her. Mia's mother said something in Punjabi.
(Oi. Don't you know that I have been calling you for so long?)
Her mother expressed her anger in Punjabi since she was Pakistani by origin. Punjabi is every Pakistani's love language. Whether it is anger, affection, or sadness, the words don't touch your soul if they ain't spoken in Punjabi. obviously, this is something undebatable.
Mia also loves Punjabi and never restrains from expressing it. This is one of the many things that makes her unique and the best among people.
She could never understand why her parents decided to move somewhere far from their homeland. It was indeed a mystery for her, but probably for another time to be unraveled.
I'm so done with you. Her mother said, when she opened her eyes, taking off her headphones.
Now, get up and help me with the work. Before you say anything, listen to me. I know that you don't like home chores, but I need you to clean up the storeroom. There's some stuff that you need to de-dust and re-organize.
Don't even think about bailing on me!
Mia got up, rolling her eyes as usual. She put on her slippers and went straight to the storeroom which was no less than a junkyard.
What the heck they have been keeping here? Mia asked herself, looking all over strangely.
It was really a big room for a store. Creepy darkness was prevailing everywhere until Mia turned on the lantern. It was quite strange that they didn't have any electrical system in the storeroom. Going into the room was like traveling to old times when everything was extraordinarily plain.
There were so many old boxes and crates stacked up all around. She didn't expect this room to look like this. Actually, she never had a chance to come here before, or probably, she thought so.
The storeroom was musty and smelled like age. To Mia's surprise, from the walls to the ceiling and floor, every side of the storeroom seemed quite lavish. It looked even more beautiful when the golden-lined ceiling glinted in the light coming through the lantern.
She suddenly felt a shudder as if something passed by her side. She was quite fantastical, but she didn't take this strange feeling seriously.
I don't know why mum even bothers to keep all this stuff here. It's not like this junk is gonna do some miracle. Ah! Maybe my kind of miracle is somewhere else waiting to happen.
Mia kept talking to herself as this was her favorite hobby. Interestingly, she talked to herself more than she did to others. She didn't know that this habit was gonna change forever.
As she was looking through the old stuff, she found a mirror hanging on the wall. The mirror wasn't uncommon but there was something strange about it. She suddenly noticed an even more strange symbol etched into the right side of the mirror. Mia couldn't help but feel like the symbol was pulling her.
She reached out to touch it and as soon as she touched it, she heard a sound as if something just fell down. She turned back to see what happened and found an old, dusty box laying on the floor.
It wasn't here before as far as I remember. Where did it come from? Oh, come on! It isn't like someone from another dimension just dropped it and vanished. Let's check it out.
Mia moved ahead and grabbed it. Just as she held the box, it popped up. She didn't even try opening it. There it was. An old book that was about to reveal the untold and unseen magics of a hidden world.
Mia's eyes were glowing as if the book meant something to her. She didn't understand the feeling and shake it off.
Oh waawii! It seems interesting.
She sat for a moment and tried opening the book. Something was wrong with it. She couldn't open it. She grabbed the book along with the box and headed straight to her room.
There's something really strange about this book. I don't know why it feels like I should open and read it. Why is this reminding me of my nightmare?
She kept thinking aloud and suddenly something struck her mind.
As she was sliding her hands on the book, she realized something. Oh damn! It is the same pull that I feel when I'm dreaming. The pull towards that weird place.
I don't know what is wrong with me. Why I keep thinking like this? All of this is just something my mind has been making up to cope with my fucking messed up life.
Mia wasn't always like this. She used to be very positive, very open-minded, and especially, cheerful. She still believes in miracles and something even bigger, but she somehow has lost her charm. Her charm was nothing other than her ability to keep smiling and laughing through every moment. Her life has become bizarre and it is like a vicious cycle.
Who knows if this book is gonna change it all for good?
It is yet to be revealed how she succeded in opening the book, but she was pulled into it to be brought somewhere she was meant to be.
Mia opened slowly opened her eyes after being pulled into the book. She couldn't believe it at all. It was no less than a marvel. She has never seen anything so beautiful. Greenery, flowers, mountains, water falls, and a lot more. There was everything she could ever fantasize about.
