By the time I got back to the Island it was at least five.
I unlocked the front door and stepped inside my huge house, and heard two people in the dining room, talking in tired voices.
I walked into the dining room and found my parents. "Oh hey," I smile. "Didn't know you were home."
"What's this about Ruthie saying you were on a date?" My dad asks immediately.
I groan. "Did she actually say that?"
My mom laughs. "As soon as we walked in the door, she ran up to us and told us."
"I was not on a date." I correct. "I was with Nate Lark, remember I told you about him?"
"So you were on a date?" Dad asks.
"No!" I yelp, exasperated, making mom laugh.
"How'd it go?"
I scream and turn around, knocking into the wall.
Ruthie and Opal are still here.
"It WASN'T a DATE! And it was fun. I'm going there for Christmas Eve and Christmas day." I pant.
"Sorry we couldn't be here." Mom sighs.
"It's fine." I reply. "Seriously."
"I better get home." Opal says. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"If she's not with Naaate!" Ruthie sings, then flies outside.
"RUTHIE!" I yell.
Opal laughs as she flies after.
