They tapped their pencil onto the desk deep in thought. Suddenly a hand came out of nowhere and covered their eyes. They didn't budge all they did was sigh. "Really Jay, I would have hoped you would stop doing such childish things" they laughed knowing that they weren't any better. "tsk I hope you aren't serious right now Ace" Jay chuckled. Ace just shrugged looking down at their notebook, they sighed. "Who needs notes anyways, you are really fucking smart you don't need a piece of paper to tell you everything" Jay said with pride and patting Ace on the back. Ace scoffed "says the one who is basically failing all of his classes besides English" Ace said pulling their laptop out of their bag. Jay went silent for a moment "SoooOoOoo at least it's one class" Jay said crossing his arms. "I wish I was like you being proud of myself for every little thing" Ace sighed looking at the time.

Then a note fell on their desk. Ace tilted their head to the side and looked up. The person who gave them the note was gone. Jay peek over Aces shoulder curious what the note said.
Aces opened the note and Jay instantly knew it was a love letter. "Holy shit Ace someone has a crush on you~~" Jay whispered. Ace crumpled the note up and got up and threw it into the trash. "Dude what the fuck was that for?!?" Jay was shocked and didn't know how to process what the fuck just happened. Ace just shrugged "I don't like whoever it was that gave me the note" They said sitting back down. Jay flicked the back of Aces head. "Ow wh-" "And how would you know that? Maybe if you gave them a chance then you might" Jay leaned into his chair and crossed his arms. Ace looked at him and shook their head "I know for a fact I wouldn't" Ace rubbed their head. "How would you know how the f-".

" Jay I don't like people romantically or sexually I never have and never will, I have tried to trust me I really have but I never could" Ace slumped their shoulders and looked away from Jay. No one spoke the only thing you could hear was other students talking or the sound of pencils on paper and light snoring. Jay sighed "I'm not disappointed or anything I'm not surprised either I just feel bad for who ever gave you that note" Jay said rubbing their shoulder. "I'm glad you told me" Ace looked at Jay and smiled.

Ace smiled sadly "They will forget about it soon enough it's high school after all" Ace said with a shrug. Jay gave a small scoff "You are right about that one my friend" Jay said while giving Ace a small hug from behind. "Now do you want to go to the mall after school?" Jay asked now switching the subject. Ace smiled at him. They gave Jay a small smile back "Why not, I got nothing better to do" Ace said putting their notebook away. "let's gooo I'll drop you off afterwards" Jay said with a bright smile

Ace was happy to see that their best friend didn't see them any different. Jay was one of the most important people in their life. But Jay didn't leave them when they came out to him as non-binary. The world can be very unpredictable at times so they had a hard time telling people that part of themselves. But as long as Jay was with them then everything would be fine for a good while.

(Pretty short story but I didn't really see how to keep going with it)
