Dolphins use a unique whistle to identify each other.
Scientists have noticed that a dolphin will respond when it hears the sound of its own signature whistle, repeating that whistle back in a way that seems to say, "Yup, I'm here—did you call my name?" So, just like us humans, if they hear their name, they answer.
Who knows what they talk about after that? The weather? The latest marine gossip? Whether the water is feeling warmer or did someone just have a wee?
