Each night bats can eat their body weight or more in insects.

That's somewhere in the region of 600 to 1,000 insects. They eat moths, crickets, locusts, fruit flies, gnats, beetles, mosquitoes, and other little bugs. And because bats eat so many insects, which have exoskeletons made of a shiny material called chitin, some bat poop sparkles.

So, the next time you see a shiny cave – it's probably a toilet for bats.
