I can only imagine what it feels like to be laying in the hot sun as it bakes my skin again. That warmth, the heat, how it would lull me into a light sleep. Nothing like the feeling I have now as my teeth chatter uncontrollably and I lose most of the sensation in my body. The sleep is still coming though, but it's no where near as relaxing, this is absolute torture.
My heart is slowing down and if I have any fingers or toes left, I can't feel them. Every inhale of the sharp crisp air that I breath scorches my lungs. My eyes try to stay focused in the darkness, but I'm battling against sleep as it tries to drag me away like a monster in my dreams. How did I get here? Oh right my damn curiosity got me into this mess. I just want to go home.
My need to know more has always gotten me into situations that I regret on numerous occasions, and this time was no different. That large shiny ship that I stowed away on with all of the bright lights and buttons was like a candy store to a small child, I just had to go in. Little did I know that it would be carrying me to a slow icy death.
The heaviness of my eyes now matches that of my body and I'm pretty sure that the tears I cried have frozen my cheek to the snow beneath me. It won't be long now, death has placed its icy hand upon my gentle brow. Not even thoughts of hot summer splendor can quell my stirring mind anymore. If I just close my eyes...
"The Midgardian clearly has no life force left inside of her sire, shall I dispose of the body?"
"No, I will take care of it myself. I've never seen one quite this breathtaking before. Leave it, I wish to examine it myself for a bit longer"
I hear voices but my body is still fighting against me. I'm telling my limbs to move, to flail, anything to inform the voices that not dead, but I'm also not cold anymore. The weight of something heavy smothers my entire body. The ground beneath me is no longer a hard frozen tundra, more of a soft giant pillow. *Come on eyes OPEN UP DAMMIT!* My curiosity is getting the best of me.
*Wait...what is that? Something is touching my forehead and it's ice cold. It feels like a child is dragging a popsicle along my hairline. Fuck! Get it off of me, I was just getting warm!*
Suddenly, my hand cooperates quickly springing up knocking the object away. I hear a surprised gasp in a male tone reacting as my hand flops back down wearily next to my head. "Guards! Fetch the palace physician!" The same voice assertively commands. The chilling sensation once again glides over my forehead and my body jerks. A second piercingly cold feeling lands on my arm shifting back and forth. I get the feeling that whatever is touching me is trying to soothe me, but it's actually having the opposite effect.
*God I wish my eyes would just open already.* It's as if my body doesn't want me to see the world around me to protect me from something.
"It moved!"
"That could just be instinctive your highness. When a vessel ceases to function involuntary responses can occur"
"It wasn't involuntary. The Midgardian knocked my hand away!"
"I'll do a thorough exam my liege, if there's any sign of life, you'll be the first to know"
"Please do, I'll be in my chambers"
*Yes please do! I am very much alive, I just can't move*A much warmer hand is now touching the skin on the side of my neck. *That's it, find a pulse buddy, it's there, I swear!*
I hear a "hmm..." followed by a slight clatter. Then the covering over my chest is gone and a rush of cool air falls over my skin. *oh shit whatever that shock of cold metal is, it's right against my bare flesh. That means I must be naked. Okay...it's over my heart, so that's a good sign. Must be a stethoscope of sorts.*
