Classes had been going on for two weeks now, soon three. On Friday night after school Lane had taken Maya and Carina to Vancouver, in Washington State, not to Canada. Although she had gotten her license the day before, he had driven.

The next day the blonde had an errand to run and when it was more than an hour away, her father preferred to take a hotel on the spot so that, strangely, Maya could rest.

The Italian girl wanted to go with them, she could have stayed at her pen pal's house, but she was the person she knew the most and she preferred to stay with her.

They had arrived on Friday at 6pm. It was the first official race of the year and it wasn't a friendly race or a race with the students of her high school like the weekend before school started.
There would be two races on Saturday and one on Sunday.

-"Maya, you're going to train for an hour or two."

-"But Dad, I'm going to run tomorrow and the day after and it's already past six. Besides, we have homework."

- "Until nine o'clock and then we'll go to lunch, you'll do your homework and curfew is at 11pm. Tomorrow I want you in shape by seven. Breakfast at seven thirty."

- "My first run is only at ten and the second run is only at three."

- "tomorrow 8:30 a.m. training"

Carina was ping ponging between her father and her friend at the entrance to their room.
She wanted to defend Maya but who was she to judge if she was training too much or not.

"Go get your outfit on. And meet me in five minutes in the gym. We'll use the treadmill"

Her father had left and Maya had closed the door.

- "Is he always like this?"

- "yes."

- "but he was cooler last time"

- "probably because it was a friendly race and in high school... Now it's a race that counts so you understand..."

- "no I don't understand... Excuse me, but you already run every day".

- "I know" she had undressed to get dressed and they were talking through the bathroom door.

- "you know what?! I'll come train with you" she said with a big smile as she started to undress.

- "really?"

- "yes. I hope your dad doesn't start shoving his stopwatch in my face, but yes I'll train with you."

- "thanks Carina, really"

- "with everything you've done for me, it's the least I can do"

They had dressed up and gone down to the gym. Lane was surprised to see Carina in her clothes as well.

"I hope you don't mind Lane, I'm going to enjoy your... Expertise."

- "with pleasure!" He said with a smile on his lips as if he had achieved something.

The two girls had run for about thirty minutes after stretching and after that they had done some weight training. So that the blonde could rest, Carina had suggested to Lane that they each take a turn, as a little friendly competition, he had seen nothing but fire.

After the sport they had returned to their room and had taken turns to shower before going to eat.
They had dined all three at the hotel restaurant, Lane had chosen Maya's meal and he had let Carina take what she wanted.

Out of solidarity she had taken what her friend had taken.

- "I asked them to deliver breakfast to your room tomorrow. High carb. I don't want you to run into your competitors at breakfast. I know you get along with some of them, but they are your enemies."
