As Kaoru’s friends were looking for her the ermine ran after her friend and found him laid by a rock crying - ”Fox! It’s okay to have feelings. I’m here with you. Do you want to talk about it?” She asked as she began to tear up too. Seeing her friend like this made her upset. ”Fern. Do you want to tell me what happend?” She seemed very worried and rolled up beside him, so close that their fur touched - "I-I'm okay..." replied the fox as he wiped his tears off "e-everything's fine... don't worry about me." he shoved his head into the snow again. The ermine saw that he didn’t mean what he said, but she didn’t want to force him to tell her. “You don’t look okay. I am really worried. If you want to talk, then I’m here for you.” - "thank you.." he muffled "do you really wanna know what happened?..." he asked and looked at her - ”yes!” Whatever he was going to say, she was gonna listen to him and try to understand, she nodded her head - "okay... well , you heard what I said right? a-about my mom.." he said quietly - ”yeah.. I’m sorry” she said ”She’s with you in the stars. Wherever you go, she’s with you” she said trying to help - "Well, what happened was.. a hunter killed my mom. Me and my brother were still babies.. the dogs were chasing her and she couldn't run with both of us - so she took my brother and said she'll come back for me... well, she didn't.. just as she was running back for me.. he.. he shot her.. I was outside and saw everything.. me and my brother got separated since then.. when we saw each other again he told me what happened, a nice old lady took him in and watched him as he grew old, then she had to let him go back into the wildlife.. As for me.. I lived with dad up until he got sick and.. you know, died. I was old enough to take care of myself... Now he's living with a nice she-fox and they're gonna be parents, and I.. I got you guys. You're my family now.." he told his story to his friend, he knew he could trust the little ermine enough to say that they're family. ”I am so sorry for you. You totally didn’t deserve having to watch your mother,.. you know. It will be so much fun to meet your brother soon, he is maybe sharing the same feelings with you and you can talk about it. If there’s anything I can do for you, I’ll do it. Two-legs are the worst, but some of them are nice. I am so proud of you, and even though there’s sadness left I think you handled it well. It’s an honor for me to have you in my family. I feel so welcome with you guys. I can relate to feeling lonely. I never met my parents, I just one day found myself alone in the forest. But.. It’s okay. It takes a bit time, but it will be better” said the ermine looking at her friend. "Thank you for listening to me ..." he said and touched his nose with hers " we're family.. I'm never getting my eyes off of you, I'll keep my mom's promise and keep my family safe." he said quietly and wagged his tail in sight of happiness.
"We should go back to the others and get going to my brother, he probably has been expecting me to visit him for months! We shouldn't keep him waiting" said the fox happily as he stood up and smiled at his friend - he was happy. ”We really should!” the ermine smiled - "alright, let’s go then, c'mon" he said and started walking back to the others. The ermine followed her dear friend through the winter forest. As they walked side by side, she waged her little tail - she was happy that she could help him. "Guys, we should go to my brother already" he said to his fellow friends and smiled still wagging his fluffy tail. In the meantime the footsteps of humans got closer to the den, it was Kaoru’s friends, she’s not scared of them but she’s scared of not being able to explain to her animal friends on what is going on. They hate humans, Kaoru doesn't. Eventually, her friends found her all coddled up inside the den. The fox saw humans entering the den and ran inside, he saw Kaoru laying on the ground and them trying to talk to her, the fox couldn't understand what the humans were trying to do and he thought that Kaoru's in danger so he ran in front of her and growled at them. Kaoru's friends tried to give her a hug, but the fox didn’t let them get close to her. Kaoru didn’t really know how to express that they're good people, until she had a very good idea - to give her friend a head pat. Kaoru's friend smiled. Kaoru looked back at the animals and smiled. The fox understood they're not going to harm his friend and he sat down wagging his tail - it came closer to the humans and brushed his head into the humans hands. “ Humans?“ as always, the ermine wanted to explore and question. ”Why are they here?”- "I don't know" replied the fox "but they seem friendly, like Kaoru!" said the fox and wagged his tail, ”Well, okay!” the ermine smiled and made a happy noise – one of Kaoru’s friends carefully picked her up and she waged her little tail. "I like seeing you happy, and I'd hate to ruin your mood - but we have something to do, remember?" said the fox as he looked at his friend.
In the meantime the dog Esther padded not far from the group. Admiring his surroundings smiling happily as the forest life swarmed around his white muddy fur. The fox saw Esther and ran to him "Esther!" he said "how are you feeling bud?" the fox asked making a happy chirping noise and wagged his tail - Esther saw the fox running up to him. His tail wagged happily. Making little hops. " Hi! I’m feeling great how are u?!! " , "fantastic!! " said the fox as he jumped onto his friend "Esther let's play!!" he said giggling and wagging his tail happily. Esther smiled and bent down into a playful position. " Your on fox! " - the fox jumped onto his friend again and they were wrestling in the snow. Esther wiggled free and pounced on Fern. He left off allowing the fox to get up before launching at him again - "haha.. This reminds me of the old times, when me and my brother would wrestle - we were still kids, you gotta learn a lot about my brother Esther" said the fox as he was chirping happily , " Same! I remember doing this with my litter mates. Good old times before I was sold away from my mother and family. I was last to go, I saw them all go one by one. I never knew why until now. I cant wait to meet your brother! " Esther barked happily, his tail wagging fiercely. "You know, my brother is older than me withing a few months but, I am way more childish than him, he's like - acting all mr. smart-tail, haha" said the fox as he started giggling - Esther giggled too. "Sounds like my sister! I met her a few times aha. She is a beautiful German shepherd. I was the only white one in the litter so everyone called me weird but they loved my coat! " He got up and began padding towards the stream to drink. the fox streched and laid down in the snow "do you wanna rest a little bit?" he asked "come lay next to me , we can cuddle up so we're not cold, it did start snowing after all" he said as he looked at Esther and softly wagged his tail - Esther smiled " yea sure plus my long fur can keep u warm as u have quite short fur " , "I do not! I may look short-coated but trust me, my fur is quite long!" Fern said and giggled a little , "but anyway, let's just rest while we wait for the others , alright?" he said chirping happily - " yea alright then " Esther snuggled into the foxes fur getting comfortable , the fox felt comfortable and wagged his tail. Esther fell asleep smiling and feeling warm , the fox was happy that Esther was feeling himself , he was free and wild - he appeared to enjoy his new life - "only if I met you sooner.." said Fern quietly as he touched noses with Esther and fell asleep too , Esther felt the foxes nose touch his. He smiled happily as his tail wagged uncontrollably. Esther woke up, the sun shone on his pelt making it go as shiny as a star. He felt the foxes fur on his as he saw Fern cuddling him. He didn't dare move and wake up the fox – Fern moved a little bit , it seemed like he was dreaming , Esther got up and pressed his muzzle into the crook of the foxes neck. " wake up Fern " - "hm..?" he muffled as he opened his eyes "what's wrong, did something happen?" he asked. "No no ,not at all. We should set off soon if we wanna get to your brother. I hunted a vole for you " Esther smiled as he spoke. Soft toned. "ha!?.. oh mices, Esther you shouldn't have!!.." he said as he hid his face in his tail - " Aha I did. Eat up fox I already ate " said Esther as he pushed the vole close to Fern , his ear flicked watching the fox hide his face. "Okay.. I'll eat'' the fox muffled and got his tail away from his face, he took the vole and started chewing on it.
Esther smiled “I’ll go swim for a while, I’ll be by the river if you need me” he said as he padded to the rive that was close by - after the fox finished his food he began to gaze at Esther "you're a good dog." he said to himself , Esther left in the water pulling up to the surface shaking his coat splashing Fern - "Hey!! Esther! ..haa.. nevermind - we really should go visit my brother already, if the others aren't coming then we at least should go together" he said as he shaked off the water on his fur from Esther , his gaze turned towards Fern. "Aha okay fox! " He shook once more panting wagging his tail. They started walking as fern led the way to where his brother lives, Esther padded alongside after Fern. "It's gonna take a while though, we might have to stop for a rest and hunt for something if we get hungry, but I'm gonna say it now! When we get into the part of the forest where my brother lives - no hunting or sudden jumping on the other smaller animals, It's a pretty live place there" he said and chirped once again - " Okay then. And take all the time u need bud " , "eheh.. that goes to you Soft Paws , you're new to wildlife, while I had lived here all this time, walking around those paths is easy for me" said Fern as he was being cheesy with Esther, he giggled " my time in these forests with you has been the best days in my life fox " said Esther as he was wagging his tail happily. "Heh, mine too buddy.. mine too." he giggled as they continued walking for a long time.

Will they finally meet Fern’s brother? Who is he and what will happen between them? We’ll learn in the next chapter , until then, let’s have a nap and rest.
