Penellaphe gazed up at the ship descending through the clouds, her heart beating faster than she could have imagined. Percy, who was next to her, looked just as nervous as she was, which was no surprise to her, considering both their beloved ones were on the ship. Jason, she thought. After so many months apart, she felt as if she would faint when she saw her boyfriend. Eight months to be exact, she spent all her time trying to gather much information on his whereabouts, and even though she couldn't go out herself, since she was the praetor, she still tried her best using iris messages to communicate with others, hoping that one day she could find where Jason is.
"Earth to Penellaphe? You still here?" Percy asked, waving his hand in front of her.
She nodded and gave a small smile towards her friend, but she couldn't help but feel something uneasy. She pushed down her feelings and stepped in front of the Romans as four people stepped down onto Roman soil. She could hear the Romans muttering impolite words, some even cursing the Greeks to have the nerve to come to Camp Jupiter.
Her eyes shifted to Jason, who was standing in front of her in a flash, the way he looked around and landed his eyes on her, and flashed her a big smile, made her heart swell. He still had the little scar on his lip, which to be honest made her laugh every time when she recalled the memory Thalia told her.
"Jason, my former colleague, I welcome you home.. and your friends?" Reyna said, stepping forward, positioning her beside Penellaphe.
But before she could do anything, Percy and the blonde girl next to Jason, Annabeth, ran into each other's arms. Penellaphe was glad her friend, she had seen Percy being a wreck this morning, pacing all over the principia, even making herself as nervous and as dizzy. Sometimes, she hated herself that she was Roman. Romans were trained to be rational, not daring to show any emotions at all time. Since Jason was also trained this way, the two could never publicize their relationship like Percy and Annabeth. And now, Penellaphe couldn't even run to Jason hug him, or she would make a fool of herself.
Jason cleared his throat, eyeing Annabeth for a while before walking towards the Romans.
"So... yeah, it is good to be back." Jason awkwardly said, "That was Annabeth, and this is Leo and Piper."
Piper, the brown haired beauty, whom Jason introduced, walked to Jason and flashed everyone a enchanting smile. But what Penellaphe didn't know was, the next thing Piper did would make her whole world crash.
Piper grabbed Jason's hand and tucked it in hers, giving him a kiss on the cheek. Penellaphe felt like she couldn't breathe, her eyes widened and tears were threatening to pour out. Reyna looked at Jason with anger in her eyes, like she was ready to stab a knife right in Jason's chest. She forced her tears to stop and cleared her throat,
"Centurions!" She yelled, her voicing wavering slightly, "escort the Greeks to the forum, tell the harpies to prepare the feast for our guests."
She then turned to their guests, who obviously were clueless on what had just happened, "There are somethings that I would like to discuss with Reyna, I will be back shortly, but for now please enjoy the meal." She motioned Percy forward, "Percy will be showing you around."
Before anyone could reply, she rushed out of the arena with Reyna following behind her. When they finally reached the Principia, she couldn't help but break down. She fell to the ground and wrapped her arms around her legs. Reyna sighed and slowly keeled down next to her, hugging her and muttering useless comforting words. She was done with Juno. She had spent years trying to build up her ranks in Camp. She was the daughter of Ceres, which was considered pathetic, no offense to her mother, but she had to learn combat fighting from scratch, training herself in a brutal way just so she could be the best. Her powers, which she mastered well eventually, was very powerful, but the Romans never cared about the powers, they only wanted a leader who could be the best on the battle field, and Penellaphe learned it the hard way.
When she met Jason around seven years old, she was still a nobody in camp, while Jason was treated like a prince. getting special treatments from the praetors, and fighting came naturally to him. Nonetheless, Penellaphe still fell for the golden boy hard. When they became a couple, people still looked down at her, she even heard people spreading rumors on how she had Jason under a spell, or they had no idea what Jason saw in her. When she finally became praetor alongside Jason, the rumors finally stopped, people actually looked up to her when she fought in the battle, her powerful aura radiating as she slaughtered monster after monster. All these years, she had spent them on trying to prove herself, the only person who she could rent to for hours and hours was Jason. He would always find time to listen to her talking about the day in his busy schedule, and Penellaphe was forever grateful.
Now everything was ruined, Jason probably couldn't even remember her, much less as his girlfriend, or ex-girlfriend. She wanted to go ballistic and blame everything on Jason, but she couldn't bring herself to. The way he smiled at her like nothing was wrong, the way he looked at Piper McLean, made her so jealous and broken. The only person she could blame was Juno.
"Hey, you okay?" Reyna finally asked as she stopped crying. "You can take the day off and let Percy and I handle the Greeks?"
Penellaphe shook her head and stood up, she was done crying for something so stupid, for someone who didn't even remember her, much less loved her. She was the praetor of New Rome, and she intended to live up to her title, no matter what happened.
"No, I'm not some girl who cries over a boy. Let's go out there and show the Greeks how it is done!"
