-READER POV-
Stumbling around a big city, drunk and cold, was hands down the worst way to spend a Friday night. My shoes had been left behind sometime back, and I could've sworn I had left my house with a jacket for warmth at least. But now I found myself wearing only a short dress, walking through dangerous skinny alleyways in thin socks. How embarrassing.
I knew I left a bag for myself in one of these narrow streets, but that was the problem with big city alleys. It was too hard to tell them apart and too easy to get lost in them. That's probably how I would describe the predicament I was in. Being lost. By this point I had no interest in finding my bag, and was on the lookout for literally any business that was still open this time of night. Anywhere that could provide warmth and protection from the almost freezing temperatures outside.
Being out this late in the city, especially while being quirkless, was definitely dangerous. More than dangerous. Lethal. The streets seemed more quiet that night than ever, which was particularly frightening. What was scaring the street rats and petty criminals off the streets? Probably something I wanted nothing to do with.
It felt like I had to have walked miles upon miles before I saw a glorious lit up sign. After my drunk, cold, and exhausting walk, it felt like I was standing right at the gates of heaven. By the time I got to the front door the lights were too blurry to even attempt to read the sign, but they had to be open, right? If they were closed, the lit up sign was very misleading.
They have to be open.
I put my hand up against the door, praying to whoever was listening that this would be my safe haven for the night.
The door gave way under my touch, swinging open to reveal a dingy bar. A dingy, empty, closed-looking bar. I couldn't be bothered to care. The first chair I got to I collapsed upon. My head quickly fell against the table, my neck thankful to no longer be carrying the weight. It took maybe 10 seconds for my vision to go blurry, and I must have lost consciousness not long after.
-TOMURA POV-
At around 1AM, far too late for me to be woken up, the clink of the bells on the door of the bar woke me up. They were followed by a thud, then another quieter clunk.
My dry eyes squinted as I sat up.
If Dabi is bringing more people to the hideout, he's in for it. What's the point of a 'secret' hideout if every girl Dabi is mildly into knows the location of it?
I dragged myself out of bed, my anger growing by the second.
"Can I get one good night of sleep?" Grumbling the whole way, I slipped through my door and stepped quietly down the stairs leading to the main room.
At a glance the bar looked the same as always; depressing and empty. The only thing that stood out was the girl at the counter. Why was there a girl at the counter?
I slowly approached her, realizing she was out cold. Another drunk college student no doubt, probably just bar hopping. No chance she knew where she was. No matter how drunk you are, you don't walk into the den of a lion then put your head down and sleep.
I could just kill her.
The thought was dismissed right as it entered my mind. Unnecessary killing only drew more attention to the league. I would just have to kick her out.
By the time I had settled on a course of action, I was stood not one foot from her sleeping body.
I hate drunk people.
I carefully poked one finger into her shoulder, then two. She didn't show any signs of waking up. I frowned even harder.
I put my hand on the back of her chair, lightly shaking it. She was still unresponsive, besides her body slightly moving with the motion of the chair. Slowly, incredibly slowly, she started tilting towards me. It all happened very quickly after that.
She fell onto me, and without thinking I went to catch her. The second I felt all five fingers make contact with her shoulder I jumped back. Her body crashed onto the ground and I watched, knowing there was nothing I could do to stop what was happening.
This wasn't the first time I touched someone by accident, and it definitely wouldn't be the last. No matter how much or little I want someone dead, it would happen if they got too close. I like to think I've done an alright job of coming to terms with it. If I can't stop what happens, why be sad over it?
I watched her body, waiting to see her flesh decompose, wither, and turn to dust.
5 seconds went by, then 10.
20.
30. This was getting ridiculous.
I cautiously stepped closer, then crouched down to her level. My head tilted sidewise. I definitely touched her. I felt her skin. I felt it on my whole hand. So how is she still here?
My hand slowly made it's way to her shoulder again. I rested 1, 2, then 3, and 4 fingers against her cold skin. The final finger, my thumb inched closer.
What if I kill her?
But what if I DON'T??
My thumb made contact, and I stared and waited. Nothing happened.
I hadn't even realized I was holding my breath until I let it out. Then I leapt away, as if thrown back by some invisible force. More frantically now I began to pace, my breathing infinitely faster than before.
Staring at her for a little longer, I tried form one coherent thought. One solid game plan. The only rule that had applied my whole life was suddenly null and void. How???
After pacing some more and coming to no conclusions, I sharply turned and stalked back up to my room. I paced some more. I must have paced for an hour. Then I slid under the covers with the knowledge that I would be unable to sleep.
