Thomas. Where is Thomas? He needs to know.
"Thomas!"
The data room was one of the biggest rooms in the W.I.C.K.E.D compound. The equally spaced hard drives made the room look like a maze. How ironic, Vicki thought. She, Thomas and Theresa had met in the small opening in the center of the room since they started working on Maze A. Now, Vicki feared they would be meeting for the last time.
"Vicki! I have something to tell you!" Thomas called from just out of sight. Vicki followed the worried voice to the brown haired boy who was nervously biting his thumbnail. The two embraced, knowing something was wrong with the other. "What's wrong Thomas?" Vicki asked, stepping back. Thomas ran a hand through his hair.
"I gave the locations of the mazes to the the Red Arm."
"You what?! Do you know how dangerous that is?!" Vicki hissed.
"I know. I'm sorry. I couldn't keep watching them die." Thomas explained. "I already told Teresa. Please understand. I'm sorry Vicki."
Vicki blew out a breath. "I know. Trust me, I understand." She rubbed his arm comfortingly. "I reprogrammed the grievers." She confessed "They won't leave the maze." She let out a disheartened laugh. "I guess we're both in trouble."
They stood in silence for a while, minds swarming with what if's and questions. Although they both knew what this meant.
"Do you think-"
"No." Thomas interrupted her.
She looked up at him, tears pooling in her eyes, threatening to spill. "I don't want to forget you."
Thomas reached for her hand, rubbing his thumb over the back of her hand. "You won't. I won't. We'll remember. I'll make you remember." Thomas's voice broke. He pulled her into a hug, wishing he could somehow save her from their shared fate. "At least we'll still be together."
They could now hear footsteps of the guards. The squeezed each other harder, savoring their last moments together. It didn't take long for the guards to find them, and they were swiftly ripped from each other.
As he was being dragged away he called to Vicki, "I'll see you on the other side!"
"I'll get us out! I promise!" She responded.
After working on the maze and having to see her friends struggle to survive, Vicki prayed that she would be able to save them.
