Your red string

first day of 1A

I wake up to the loud buzzing of my alarm clock. It's officially my first day and i am very nervous.

I turn off my alarm and roll over onto my back, before taking a deep breath. Though sleep still fogs by brain, I can feel my anxiety building up each second. it's not like i'm going to an entirely new school.

I get ready for school, pulling in my freshly washed uniform, fixing my hair, and brush my teeth. When I get down stairs, I am greeted by my dads and my little sister, Eri, who is already dressed and full of energy. I mutter out an quiet good morning to them and sit down to eat my breakfast.

"Alright guys, it's time to leave." My dad says checking the time and pulling his bag over his shoulder, opening the garage door. I grab my bag and we all get into the car, with my dads in the front and me and my little sister in the back.

Its especially sad outside today, it's cold and a bit rainy. It's quite depressing and probably not a good sign for my first day.

We drop off my sister at daycare and continue driving to school. The drive there felt unusually long and intense. When we get there my dad parks his car, we all I get out and I immediately began walking to my first class. I look around at my school, the 1A portion of the school looks identical to the 1C portion, but there are many new faces.

I feel so out of place, I hate it already.

As i'm walking up to the school, my red string flickers to life, glowing brightly. It's leads into the school. "oh shit.." I mutter understand my breath, I ball up my fists and shove them into my pockets as my pace falters.

My dad walks up behind me, "Hitoshi! Here is your schedule, you have my class first period and 5th period." he says, his deep voice bringing me out of my thoughts.

"oh- um, thanks." I say awkwardly. He places a hand on my shoulder and he leads me into the school, "I'll show you your classes" he says as we enter the school. My red string disappears, becoming invisible, as my dad shows me to my classes. He then leaves me in the lobby, where many students are sitting together. I look around at all of the tables, most are filled with friend groups so I find an empty table off to the side and sit down, pulling out my phone. The bell rings and everyone begins heading to class.

When I walk into my first period class everyone is already there and my dad is standing at the front of the class, behind his desk. Everyone is up and about, talking to each other and distracted, I look over at my dad.

"Ahem class," He says, immediately the talking stops and they all look over. "As you may know we have a new student. This is Hitoshi Shinsou." He turns to me and says, "Shinsou, you will be sitting next to Kaminari." He says, pointing to a pale boy with short golden hair with a black lightning-shaped streak in it. He waves excitedly at me with a big smile. 

I recognized him. I had seen him everywhere at school, he was always messing around in the hallways and at lunch. He was very extroverted and eccentric, and kind of cute..

I sat down at the desk next to him and the class continues on. I make it through all of my class with little trouble. The bell rings once again and now it's time for lunch, like every other student I exit into the hall and walk to the cafeteria.

I choose to go to the vending machines instead of going through the lunch line, to avoid interacting with too many people. I buy an energy drink and a bag of chips, it's not much but it'll do. I scan the lunchroom for a table, most of the tables are already filled with friend groups, so I sit down at an empty table again off the the side. I sit down, put in my earbuds and eating my chips while scrolling on my phone.

I don't get more than two minutes to myself before 3 people sit down in the seats across from me. I remove my earbud and look up at them, it's kaminari, a black haired boy and a pink almost alien looking girl, all of which I recognize from class.

The pink alien girl is the first to speak, "Hi! I'm Mina! This is Sero, and you already know Kaminari." She says happily, motioning to the two boys. She is obviously very friendly.

"Yeah, we just wanted to introduce ourselves, since your new to our class." Kaminari says with a smile.

"Oh yeah, thanks." I say awkwardly, I look at the three of them with an uneasy smile. When I look at Sero, he is starting right at me with a slightly judgmental look on his face. He then says, "Yo Mina, wanna go get some food, i'm starving."

"Sure, see ya Shinsou!!" She says, waving excitedly, Sero grabs Mina's arm and they walk away leaving Kaminari at the table with me. I look over at Kaminari and there is an uncomfortable moment of silence.

"Sooooo, how are your classes so far?" Kaminari asks curiously, breaking the silence.

"They're pretty good." I say, continuing to eat my chips.

"Thats good," he says, his hands fidgeting as he quickly looks over into the direction Sero and Mina went. "Do you have a dorm yet?"

"No," I pause, "I don't think i'm gonna get a dorm, my parents are strict about that kinda stuff." I say with a softly laugh.

"Oh that sucks," He says with a smile. "Well if you ever get stuck at school, you could come to my dorm!"

"Oh, uh thanks" I say, a light blush creeping up my face, he definitely notices it and looks down smiling. I take a deep breath, building up some courage, "Do you- uh want some chips?" I ask, moving the bag so that he could take some. 

"Sure, thanks!" He says just as Sero and Mina return. Before Kaminari could take some chips, Sero pulled kaminari up out his seat and said "Kami, it's time to go." His tone wasn't angry but a little aggressive.

"oh- um ok." kaminari says, he clearly sounds and looks disappointed. "See ya, Shinsou!" He says, waving as Sero drags him away.

The rest of lunch was boring, I just ate my chips and chugged my drink before heading back to class. The whole time I thought about Kaminari and how odd Sero was acting. I made it through my afternoon classes and finally finished my first official day of 1A, and it wasn't that bad!

My dad had to stay at the school for some meetings, so my papa drove me home. On the way to my little sister daycare, he asks, "So Hitoshi, how was your first day in your new classes!" 

"They were good." I answer blankly, leaning my head against my head as I stare out the window, thinking of kaminari.

"Do you have any new friends?" He questions, I can feel him glance over at me.

"Nope, no friends yet." I answer blankly again.

"Really? What about Kaminari? Your dad said you two were friendly." He says, with a sly smile. I glance over at him, a light blush creeping up my face again, before I can say anything, the car stops and a techear opens the back door, where my sister climbs into.

"Hitoshi!!! Papa!!!" She shrieks excitedly. The whole car ride home, Eri told stories about her day. My papa never asked about my day or Kaminari again, thank god.

After dinner, my dads hand me a folder of school papers. "Look at the packet on top." I sigh loudly, expecting to have to read and fill out boring school forms. I open the folder and read the packet on top. It's a form to get a dorm in the school?

"Wait really?" I say, looking up from the paper at them, smiling. Despite my both of my dads rules, they had both signed the form.

"Yup! Go get packing kid, me and your dad will help you set your dorm in about a week!" He says, I jump up from my chair and pull them both into a tight hug, before running off to my room. If I had kaminari's number, I would definitely be texting him right now, informing of this good news!
