Miami - FloridaA man wakes up and finds himself in a hospital room. His head is wrapped in bandages. The man notices two people standing nearby. Without opening his eyes, he drowsily overhears a conversation between a Doctor and a Policeman.
Officer: Hey, doc! When's this bastard going to wake up?
Doctor: I don't know... He's been in a coma for weeks now.
Officer: But he is going to wake up... right? This guy is a prime suspect in a major case!
Doctor: Look, my guess is as good as yours! Though I can say it might be a while. (sighs) He's still not fully healed from the surgery...
Officer: Is there nothing you can do? We need this guy! You people weren't able to save his girlfriend... I mean, we've got the perp who shot 'em in the locker. But that asshole ain't saying shit!
Doctor: And what makes you think this guy will..?
The man in the bed stops listening. He didn't need to hear anything else. He starts to slowly drift back to sleep. Just then, everything starts to come back to him.
Well... almost everything.
His name is Y/n. Some people call him "Jacket," a nickname given due to him wearing his distinctive letterman jacket.
He was part of a US special forces unit known as the Ghost Wolves during the Hawaiian Conflict. The unit was assigned missions that were essentially suicide missions to turn the tide of the war in America's favor. Not only Y/n, but each member was the best at what they did. Though, each successful mission raised the stakes for the next one.
In 1985, during an assault on a Russian power plant, an elevator exploded, severely injuring Y/n and leaving Barnes slowly dying, leading Daniels to stay with his friend as the plant entered a meltdown. Luckily for Y/n, his best friend and comrade, Nicke, whom Y/n prefers to call by his nickname "Beard'' saved his life, carrying him through a network of tunnels and out of the plant before it detonated.
While being evacuated, Beard decided to give the injured Y/n the Polaroid picture of the two of them so he wouldn't forget who saved him.
After he and Y/n had been honorably discharged from the military, Beard was sent back home to San Francisco while Y/n returned to Miami. Some time later, Beard had opened up his own convenience store in San Francisco like he always wanted. The two kept in contact, maintaining their friendship through frequent phone calls.
But then, tragedy struck...
On April 3rd, 1986, a few months after the mission, Beard was working at his store while consoling Y/n through a recent breakup. He then asked Y/n about the picture he gave him, wondering if he ever got around to sending a copy of it. Y/n hadn't yet. Beard asked him to send one whenever he got the chance. Seeing a crowd gathering around in front of his store, Beard told his friend that he had to go and hung up. Stepping outside, Beard, and the crowd were wiped out by a bomb explosion.
Exactly three years after the sudden death of his friend, Y/n had signed up as a member for an American ultranationalist patriotic organization called 50 Blessings. After that, it wasn't long before he began to receive strange phone calls left on his answering machine.
Y/n woke up in his dirty two-bed apartment. He received a call from "Tim's Bakery" telling him a package of cookies had been sent to him. When he went to his apartment door, he found the package on the floor. However, the box didn't contain anything of the sort, but a rooster mask accompanied with an ominous note instructing him to pick up a briefcase at a metro and deliver it to a dumpster at "point F-32," and emphasizing that "Failure is not an option. We'll be watching you."
