A few days later, Charlie was released from his cell. Rose and John worked at their stations. The crew helped watch Shayla. Although, Shayla seemed to favor Spock and Uhura the most. Rose said: "I think you have a pint sized velcro there, Spock. Shayla seems to favor you and Uhura the most." Spock shrugged and said: "As long as she doesn't touch the controls, I don't mind." Rose said: "No worries there. She doesn't understand the concept of half these switches and buttons. So I don't think you'll have to worry about her messing with the controls." Rose's stomach had returned to normal. She went on away missions. One day, Jim looked at Rose and said: "Rose, we're going down to the planet below. We could use your negotiation skills." Rose grabbed her phaser and slid it in its holster and grabbed her communicator and stuck it on her utility belt and said: "Who else is in the away team?" Jim said: "John, Sulu, and Dr. McCoy. I would bring Spock, but he's currently got a pint sized velcro attached to him. And I don't want to risk Shayla crawling off." Rose was about to answer when Shayla started crying. Rose turned around and gently took Shayla from Spock and settled her on her hip and started singing. Everyone on the bridge listened to the song. Nobody recognized the language except Uhura who recognized the song. After the song ended, Uhura said: "Rose, where did you learn that song?" Rose said: "My Mom sang it to me as a little girl. I guess I just remembered it from memory. Here. Mind watching Shayla? I'm sure Spock would love to join the away team. Shayla likes you and Spock the most." Uhura said: "I'd love to watch Shayla. I always love watching Shayla. She's so adorable." Then Rose handed Shayla to Uhura. Then Rose and Spock stood and followed Jim to the transporter room where the rest of the away team was waiting. Jim, Rose, and Spock took their places. Rose said: "Beam us down Scotty." Then Scotty beamed the away team down to the planet below. Jim said: "Rose, you've led away missions in the past, right?" Rose said: "Well, yes. I did. Why?" Jim said: "Why don't you lead this one?" Rose said surprised: "I don't know what to say." John said: "Rose. Go ahead. We'll follow your lead." Rose nodded and said: "Very well. I'll lead this one." Jim said: "What do we do?" Rose bit her lip then said firmly: "We scout the terrain and speak to the natives if possible. Don't take out your phasers unless you feel threatened. We don't want people thinking we're here to kill them. We're here with a peaceful intent. Not to start a war. Oh and John, no using your sonic screwdriver. I know you have it on your utility belt. We'll check in every half interval." Then they split up. Rose set out across the terrain. Rose had her sonic screwdriver on her utility belt as well. Not even five seconds in, she received a distress signal. Rose jumped up and climbed up a rocky cliff. She pulled herself up onto the top of the cliff and stealthily moved along the cliff. She lay flat on her stomach and looked over the edge of the cliff. Sulu and Spock had gotten ambushed. Apparently John had gotten the same idea she had. She saw him mouth to her: "Phasers out?" Rose shook her head and stood and spotted a nearby vine and grabbed it and tested it and jumped and swung down and knocked the weapons out of the natives's hands and landed easily on her feet in front of Sulu and Spock. The natives spoke to her in their native language. Rose responded fluently. Sulu and Spock looked at each other. How did Rose know the native language? After what seemed like forever, the natives nodded. John climbed down from the cliff. Jim and Dr. McCoy caught up with them. The natives led them to a small village. They walked into a hut. Rose said: "I think we were expected." Sulu said: "Rose, how did you know the native language?" Rose said: "I was here once before. I befriended the natives. So, how did you and Spock get ambushed?" Sulu said: "I don't know. Nice move you did there." Rose said: "Thanks. I have a degree in self defense." Then everyone looked at each other and burst out laughing. Once they stopped laughing, John said: "She really does. She's also really smart. Before we came to the ship, a friend of ours died. Rose identified the cause of death as due to an ion storm. After I checked the records, she was right." Spock said: "How is that even possible?" Rose said thoughtfully: "Well, that's the thing about ion storms. They can pop up anywhere. Our friend got caught up in an ion storm and died. Our other friends survived. It's a miracle his ship made it back in one piece. I was able to identify it because I've seen many ion storms." Then they heard voices outside. Rose said: "Everyone wait here. I'm going to find out what's happening. I think something might be wrong." Then Rose ducked out of the hut. All the natives were gathered outside. They all had a dazed look on their faces and weapons in hand. Rose looked around. She knew that there was no chance of talking to the natives. Rose anticipated the firing. She threw up a shield as the natives started firing at her. While this was happening, the others beamed up to the ship. Except for John. He didn't want to leave Rose. Spock had to knock him out and drag him with him. The natives were thrown backwards. Their weapons ceased firing. Then Rose dropped the shield and beamed up to the ship. Spock
