The first thing Tara noticed when she stepped off the plane was the scorching sun. Queensland was just above NSW, but the weather was vastly different. After collecting her belongings, she exited the airport and noticed her auntie waiting for her.
"Hey, you made it," her aunt congratulated her.
"I'm here, and I'm ready for my new adventure."
"I can't believe you're already in university; I'm so proud of you."
"Yeah, I know, I can't even understand it myself."
"Come on, let's get home," her aunt said as she took my bags and helped me get them into the car. The drive back to my aunt's apartment was about an hour long at most. We got out of the car, took my belongings from the trunk, and walked up to the gate. We walked to my aunt's building after she unlocked the gate. We took the elevator up to the top floor. We went to her house and opened the door. My uncle was working the night shift, so he wouldn't be here tonight. I put my belongings in my room and went to assist my aunt with dinner.
"How did your flight go?" As she cut up the chicken, my aunt inquired.
"It was pretty good for my first time on a plane by myself," I say as I fill a pot with water and place it on the stove.
"When do you enter university?" She inquired as she began to slice the bacon.
"I start in three days," I say as I heat up a frypan with some oil.
"I'm overjoyed for you. You've matured so much, "she exclaimed, her voice full of joy. She added the bacon and chicken to the pan. "What exactly are you studying?" She inquires.
"I'm studying biology, zoology, and marine biology major," I tell her.
"Oh, that's right," she says as I drop the fettuccine into the now-boiling water.
We sat down to eat after dinner was finished. The food was delicious, and we had a good time talking about our days. We cleaned up the dishes after our meal and relaxed for the rest of the evening.
"Okay, sweetheart, good night. Please don't stay up too late."
"All right, I won't, and good night." We both went to our rooms to prepare for bed. I went to my bags and took out my PJs and night bag. After brushing my teeth and doing my night routine, I got dressed and hoped into bed.
(What Tara wears to bed)
I texted my mother to let her know I had arrived safely and that I was going to bed. I didn't expect her to answer because she wasn't likely to be awake. It was only 9 a.m., so I decided to spend some time on Instagram. I went to bed after a bit of scrolling and going through my friends' new posts.
