"What?" My mom whispers.
"He's back mom, he's outside," I reply fighting back tears.
"What's going on?" Roman pops his head around the corner into the hallway with a concerned look on his face.
"My ex-husband is back," She starts breaking down while Roman comforts her.
"I mean, mom, you're technically still married to him. Since you know, he kinda just ran away," I mention trying to get my mind off the fact he's literally outside.
"Please don't remind me," She chokes through her tears.

Suddenly, Roman lets go of my mom and unlocks the door, he storms outside and meets face-to-face with the man I used to call dad. Without hesitation, he grabs him by the shirt getting him on ten toes then pushed him up against the fence. I could even hear my dads back click when his back made contact with the fence.

"What are you doing back here, huh?" Roman screams in his face while my dad doesn't even look fazed. Instead, he laughs in his face.
"Who are you, little boy? Are you Alison's boy toy or what?" He lets out a manic laugh after Roman punches him in the face.
"Nah, I'm engaged to your ex-wife," He smirks and then knees him in the crotch.
"You mean wife," He corrects Roman then lets his head fall to face my mother who is holding onto me tightly. "C'mon baby, I'm twice the man he is, we never signed the papers for a reason. You know that," He says smugly with an ugly smile.

She doesn't say anything, so Roman starts punching him over and over again to the point my mom even tells him to stop.
"Stop Roman! Roman, stop it!" She repeats trying to pull him back by his shoulders. After about 4-5 punches Roman backs off and my mom wraps her arm underneath my dad's arms trying to help him into the house. I step outside before they reach the door because I don't want to be 5 feet near him.

My mom looks back at Roman giving him a sorrowful dirty look before shutting the door behind her and leaving me and Roman outside.
"Fuck my life," Roman huffs placing his hand on his forehead and looking down.
"Tell me about it," I reply walking towards him.
"Let me see your knuckles," I take his right hand in mine leading him to his car and we sit down in our usual seats. I inspect his hand and his knuckles are slightly bleeding and very red.
"Fuck, Roman. How hard did you punch him? Jeez," I try to hold back a laugh since I know the severity of the situation.
"The prick deserved it," He mutters.
"Tell me about it," I sigh letting go of his hand and sinking into the passenger seat.

Roman then starts the car and drives off, I ask him where we're going and all he says is, "Somewhere quiet.".

We pull into the empty parking lot at the back of Target.
"I just don't understand why she could help him, after all the shit he did," He looks straightforward looking hopeless.

"He was her first love, she will always go back to him," I say softly then look at him. "I'm sorry," I apologize.
"I'm not jealous, just confused, because as I said, I don't love her anymore, but I do consider her my friend," He sighs and looks down at his knuckles.

He then smiles slightly and turns his head to me.
"Perhaps now I won't hurt her feelings, if she goes back to him, you can finally have me all to yourself, she shouldn't mind, right?" He says clearly worried I won't approve of his idea.

"I think that could actually work, because I feel so selfish, but if she gets back with him, then yes. We can be together hopefully without hurting her," I smile back at him.

"I think I love you," He says.
"You're delusional," I giggle.
"What do you mean?" He looks offended.
"I'm kidding," I place a hand on his thigh.
"You do realize you're still in pajamas, right?" He mentions looking my outfit up and down.
"Oh, right,"

"Why are we in a Target parking lot?" I ask realizing where we are and how weird this is.
"I was planning on fucking you here, but I've just realized I would much prefer doing it in yours or my bed," He smirks.
"Roman!" I feel myself going red and give him a light slap on the thigh.
"I'm joking!" He puts his hands up in defense, but I know he's lying.
"Liar."
All he does is scoff.

Me and Roman decided to go to his house and stay there for a while as we don't want to see my dad again. It's been a week now and nothing interesting has happened except the usual, Roman teasing me.

We have thought about going back to see what my mom and dad are doing, I'm worried about my mom. Although I can't bear to look at her right now.

"Are we going back or not?" I ask him because he keeps changing his mind every minute.
"Sure," He answers.
"Like, for real? Now?" I ask making sure he's certain this time.
"Yeah, now," He grabs his jacket and car keys and then leads me to the car.

Once we arrive back at my house Roman unlocks the door and we walk in. My mom is just sitting on the sofa with her head in her palms covering her face.

"Mom?" I say as I walk in and she looks up at me and Roman.
"Roman," She completely ignores me and goes straight for Roman wrapping her arms around his neck and giving me and dirty look clearly directed at my mom.
"Mom? Where's dad..." I ask worried, not for him, but if he's done anything to her.
"He's gone again," She gives me a quick glance which explains why she's acting like this, because that prick walked out on her yet again.

"Let's get married, tomorrow," She whispers with her head in his neck.
"No," Is all he says before pushing her away softly.
"What?" She looks down at her ring confused.
"No," He doesn't say anything else but I know exactly what he wants to say.

"Why not, baby?" Her voice cracks and she starts tearing up, she's having one of her episodes.
"Because I'm-" He goes to say what he wants to say but I cut him off.
"Because he's not ready, mom," I finish, she can't find out, not right now.

"And why do you know that before me?" She frowns giving me a dirty look.
"Because we spoke about it while we were gone, mom," I say as politely as I can.
"Hm," She looks away and buries her face back into Roman's neck.

"Ali, a word?" Roman walks into the kitchen leading me along as we leave my mom in the hallway by herself.
"What the fuck Ali? I can't marry her!" He whispers angrily.

"You have to marry her, Roman, she will break down if something else goes wrong! She has these episodes..." I go to carry on my sentence to explain further but Roman interrupts.
"No, Ali, I can't be with her,"
"Roman! Just trust me, please," I plead and he finally agrees.
"Fine."

We make our way back to my mom and Roman announces he wants to get married next week and mom jumps in his arms.
"Omg Roman I'm so excited!" She squeals as I can see the visible disappointment on Roman's face.
