Hyperventilating, Pac-Man ran through the maze. He knew if he stayed in one spot for too long, the ghosts would definitely find him. He needed to find the exit, and quickly. It was the only way he could lose them.
He kept running. Suddenly, Pinky dashed out in front of him. Pac-Man backpedaled frantically and went the opposite direction. "Over here!" Pinky called, giving chase.
Whimpering, Pac-Man looked around. There weren't any power pellets in this maze anymore. Not in a long time. He was screwed if he made too many wrong turns or if they cornered him.
Pinky giggled, speeding up. Pac-Man dashed to the left and narrowly collided with Inky, who swung a fist at him. Pac ducked and took a right. Clyde came at him and toppled over to his side, tripping up Inky who had started pursuing Pac.
"Keep running, baby..." Pinky said. "It won't make much difference in the end."
Pac panted out a reply, "Just watch me."
Inky and Clyde came at him from a few directions. Pac-Man flipped over them and swung his body over the wall of the maze. "Hey, that's cheating!" Clyde yelled.
The exit was straight ahead. "Yes, yes!" Pac smiled. He couldn't wait to go back home to his family.
A solid punch to the face made Pac-Man tumble to the ground and slam into the wall. He saw stars, pain shooting through his left eye. Once his blurry vision adjusted, he saw Blinky stalking towards him, one glove dripping with blood. His blood.
"Well played, old pal..." the red ghost said. "Well played. Gave us quite the work-out." He grabbed Pac by his arm and yanked him to his feet. "But playtime's over." Blinky sent his fist into Pac's stomach, making him gasp in pain. Doubling over, Pac-Man was struck again, this time in the side.
He was pulled onto his feet once more. Inky was holding him up on one side, Clyde on the other. Pinky was leaning up against one of the hedges, popping a wad of bubble gum into her mouth. "You son of a bitch," Blinky continued. "For 30 years, you've been an arrogant prick. Acting like you're the hero. Like you could do no wrong. Like you were Mr. Perfect!" The ghost punched him in the face again.
Pac-Man spat out a decent amount of blood. "Blinky..." he wheezed.
"But now...now we've got you. And there's no power pellets to save you. No Missus Munchy. No nothing." The red ghost glared at Pac. "So tell me, hero...why did you abandon us? We were there for you back when Pacopolis was in danger...back when Betrayus had your ass on a platter...back when you needed help. And yet, you were never there...for us."
Blinky punched Pac again. "B-Blinky!" Pac-Man cried out, pain radiating through his whole body.
"SHUT UP!" Blinky snarled. The other ghosts jumped, surprised at his sudden aggression. "JUST SHUT UP! I get it, okay?! You have it all, Pac! A wife, kids, a nice house, and a town full of idiots who worship the ground you walk on! Is it too much to ask that kind of respect for us?!"
