"Excuse me?" he yelled, upset, "this is a bad joke, isn't it? Am I treating you so badly that you can't stand being with me anymore?" Offended, he stared at her, for he felt betrayed by her at the moment.
Rosalyn actually wanted to say something in response, but she was at a loss for words because she was surprised that he reacted so harshly. Usually he was very accommodating and most of the time he was also in a good mood. She knew he would insist on an answer, so she said to him, "I'm sorry Alan, but I can't make it anymore."
"What can't you manage anymore?" he said nastily to her, "can't you stand me personally anymore, does my celebrity bother you, or is it too much work for you? Would you rather have a client with whom you can twiddle your thumbs during working hours?" In his rage, he didn't notice at all that his brusque questions were insulting.
Rosalyn became more and more uncomfortable and she found his statements unfair. Moreover, it saddened her that he seemed to think so little of her past performance. "I can't stand it anymore, it's as simple as that! It's not you, but I'm annoyed by the environment here. I don't begrudge you your new status you've had since Harry Potter, you've earned it. Of course, since your role as Snape, the workload has skyrocketed, but I've never been lazy about work, and I've never minded the extra hours," she defended herself angrily, for he had hit a few sore spots with his words, "and besides, I hate your wife, how do you even put up with that person?"
Alan looked at her in surprise. He didn't recognize her anymore, she had never been so biting to him, actually she was always quite friendly and kind. Even though he kind of agreed with her about Mary, he felt personally attacked by his assistant, after all it was about his wife. "What's wrong with you? Just because you don't have your own working relationship, you think you can pick on mine? If it's too much work for you here, then you're really better off leaving!"
Rosalyn felt like she had just been slapped in the face by him. Without another word, she ripped open her briefcase and stuffed the few papers that belonged to her inside. "So it's sealed then," she said to him curtly, "today is the last time we'll see each other." Without giving him a second glance, she rushed into the anteroom to put on her coat and boots.
Alan had not expected such an escalation. He also didn't know why he had reacted so extremely unsympathetically. Today was simply not his day, after all, he had argued with his wife early in the morning. At the moment, everything was going round in circles when it came to his private matters. Always the same questions repeated themselves and that his Rosalyn now also became upset, gave him the rest.
His Rosalyn ... this thought just wouldn't get out of his head.
Only when he heard the slamming of the front door did he realize that he no longer had an assistant. Angrily, he ran his fingers through his hair, wondering what to do next. He didn't want to contact his manager just yet. Who knows, maybe by tomorrow she would have calmed down and would just be back in his office going about her usual business.
He didn't know at all what was going on with her today, because she always completed her tasks to his complete satisfaction. Personally, too, he had gotten along very well with her. They had made nice small talk now and then, when time permitted. Perhaps he should have treated her better. He should have taken more care of her; after all, he regularly went out to eat in restaurants with his fellow actors or with his wife Mary. He was constantly buying small gifts to show them his appreciation. Why hadn't he ever done that with Rosalyn, anyway? He had probably failed completely in this area, he just scolded himself inwardly. Somehow he had never really appreciated his assistant, although she would have more than deserved it. Now the scales fell from his eyes; he really should have made more of an effort with her.
Disappointed with himself, he lowered his head and stared at his fingers resting in his lap. He had lost the desire for his now cold coffee anyway. Rosalyn had not touched her cup either. He would let it go for today, but tomorrow at the latest, when she would not be coming to work, he would have to think of something. Why he had reacted so unkindly in her direction he didn't understand at all, probably because everything was getting too much for him himself at the moment. He had used her as an outlet for his own pent-up frustration. He stood up heavily and went to the kitchen. He emptied the two cooled drinks into the sink and disposed of the cups in the trash can. As his gaze fell on the kitchen clock, he realized that he should get going slowly in order to make it to his appointment on time.

Rosalyn slammed the front door of Alan's villa behind her. Her behavior was childish, but absolutely necessary; she had to get rid of her pent-up frustration. That was all he had to say to her after this time together? She didn't demand much from him, just the respect she felt she deserved. She had always noticed how he treated his colleagues and that he regularly invited them to dinner. She had never been envious or jealous, but now she felt equally betrayed by him. Did he really think so little of her? That he accused her of being lazy hurt her terribly. Meanwhile, he was already conceited, this wannabe actor, she thought maliciously. Well, wannabe actor wasn't exactly the right term for him, because at least he had really made it. Alan had worked hard on his career, until he became more and more respected and since he played in Harry Potter, his fame had risen to immeasurable heights.
My God, how could she have been so blind? Why had she also fallen in love with him. She should have pulled the emergency brake much earlier. "Oh screw you!" she grumbled loudly to herself and automatically quickened her pace, trying not to slide on the slippery road, because the snow still hadn't been removed from the roadways. Rosalyn didn't want to go back to her small apartment, she really needed fresh air and a hot coffee would do her good now. She would rather go for a walk so that she could reorganize her thoughts.
