Chapter 2

"Hey, buddy how was your day? Did you enjoy your class?" Travis asks once his son picks up the phone. "It was good daddy I like Mrs. Wilder a lot. When are you coming home I miss you." Cooper replies in his cute toddler voice. "Soon bubba I promise you know how it is ill be home in time to take you to school in the morning tho I promise,"

Travis says in hopes his son understands. He's always hated leaving his son for an entire day but Coop has always been understanding. As he grows older tho it has become more challenging to leave when he asks Trav to stay and talks about how much he misses his dad.

"Okay I love you Nini says she needs to talk to you and that I need to get ready for dinner we're having tacos!" Cooper says in an excited voice that boy loves his food. "Okay, buddy I love you to be a good boy for Nini and have a good sleep." With that Cooper runs off to the table and starts eating.

"Hey Ni what's up?" Travis asks he's slightly worried since she never asks to talk to him unless it's important. "Travis I hate to ask this but my grandmother fell and got hurt and is in the hospital. Is there any way you could get someone to cover the rest of your shift or get somebody else to come watch Coop? I'm the only family she's got around here and I need to go be with her." She says in a sad tone. There's no one around that can watch his son tonight since his mother's health wasn't in good shape. "I'll talk to my captain and see what I can do ill text you what's going on. They said their goodbyes and Travis made his way back into the kitchen area.

At the table after Travis walked out

Theo was the first to speak up. "I'm sorry I thought you guys knew about Coop I wouldn't have said anything otherwise." He was about to get up and walk out but Vic stopped him. " I need to know more about this situation because Travis is my best friend and he wouldn't keep this from me. Unless I dont know him at all." Vic was spiraling thinking about everything she had to know for the past 2 years of her life.

" He was protecting his son you can't blame him for that Vic your not a mom so you dont understand the need to protect your kid from anything that will hurt them." Ben put in a quick understanding from a father's standpoint where Travis was coming from. " After Micheal passed it's like Travis completely shut down. He shut everyone out and the only person he let in was Cooper. I'm almost certain in saying Coop is the only reason he's still here because before him Micheal was Travis' whole world.

The only thing he needed was his husband the love of his life then he died. Part of him died that day and the part you see today is Cooper. He's living for his son." Ruiz explained maybe he shouldn't be telling them this he doesn't know these people that well but Travis already hates him so if it means his family understands his decisions hell take being hated. "I still dont understand why he didn't tell us. Did he think we would judge him or think of him differently?" Andy finally speaks up.

"Well if he did think that would he be wrong look at us all sitting here right now judging him and thinking of him differently than we did an hour ago." Ben points out because that's what they were doing judging him for deciding that any of them could have made it in his position. "Okay enough. Travis is our friend he is our family just because he kept a secret as we all do doesn't mean we treat him differently because we learned his secret." Maya speaks up from her seat at the head of the table. "He's our family-" Travis walks in and the room falls silent.

"Maya can I speak to you for a moment." That is all he said before walking out onto the apparatus floor to wait for her. "What's up, Travis?" She says walking out. "I need to go home and I guess I can tell you why. My son's nanny has had a family emergency and needs to leave and theirs no one else to watch Cooper. So is there someone who can cover the rest of shift for me?" He finishes off looking down at his feet." Travis, we need to talk..." Before Maya could finish Travis cuts her off. "It's fine really I know we all need to talk or whatever but I need to know if I can leave and text my nanny to let her know." He talks in a rushed tone hoping to get across the urgency.

"Yes, Travis go deal with whatever you need to. If you can figure something out and come back to shift do so if not we can run a man down." And with that, he runs into the change-out room to grab his stuff. "Thank you Maya seriously." he runs to his car.

Travis POV

    "Hey, buddy I'm home." All I hear is little feet running down the hallway before a little body jumps into my arms. Luckily I had already dropped my bag when I walked in. "Hi, bubba I missed you. Did you have a good day at school?" "Yeah I made new friends and the teacher is really nice." He says with the biggest smile on his face. "That's great buddy why dont you tell Nini by and we can go read a book before bedtime." "Okay but I want to pick it out tonight."

After goodbyes and reading books, I tuck Cooper in and tell him goodnight before walking out of his room. I finally can take a deep breath and realize everything is out now. The entire team knows about Cooper and the fact that I have been keeping a huge secret from them. Theo Ruiz is now working with us for a bit and I dont know how that is going to work. I feel like I blew up my entire life in less than 24 hours.

I grab a beer and get comfortable on the couch knowing there is nobody to watch coop. All I can seem to think about is how my entire life has imploded, this morning I dropped my kid off at preschool, and tonight I realize I may have made a huge mistake 4 years ago. But that's the past and I can't change that nor would I, we can only look forward and hope this can be worked out.

Well looks like I updated I've had most of this chapter written for 2 months but haven't had the energy to finish it but here we go. In all honesty I need ideas to kept this story going I have a few big plots but need some smaller filler ideas HELP!!! Anyways enjoy
