A forever world

Chapter 1

Travis Montgomerys life had pretty much stayed consistent for the past two years once he joined 19. After he lost his husband Micheal 4 years ago with a newborn son at home he packed his bags and left seattle for 2 years.

There were to many memories and he needed space and time to grieve while also being a parent and thats what he did. Then he joined 19 determined this was where he was meant to be. Travis made fast friends with the crew but he kept one big secret from them his son.

Its not like he didnt want to tell them but ot was just easier on them it kept his biggest weakness safe. Cooper was now 4 years old about to start preschool in the fall and travis was wondering where his little boy went. After the first year Trav decided that although he was close to his firefam they didnt need to know every aspect of his life just like he didnt need to know theirs.

So day by day he woke up took Cooper to the nannies house went to work and prayed he made it home safe. Working 24 hours a shift away from you baby isnt exactly ideal and travis's least favirote part of the job. But he spends all of his time between shifts with Cooper. Although he has to make up white lies when the crew asks him to go out for dinner or drinks afterwards he doesnt see it as harmful this was his kid after all.

Theo ruiz. Captain from his old station. Was with his husband when he was killed. The person travis blamed for 4 years for Micheals death. He is now standing on the apparatus floor at 19 talking to Vic. My best friend Vic! What is he doing here? Why is he in uniform? Are those leutinant stripes? Why isnt he a captain anymore? All these thoughts ran through Travis's head until he felt himself moving towards Theo wanting answers to all his questions.

After the funeral Travis and Cooper left and cut all contact with everyone from his previous firehouse. "What the hell are you doing here?" Travis manages to get out anger filling within him. "Im filling in im the new floater until you an get someone in to fill the open spot permanitly." Theo responded after being practically yelled at by his forer best friend. "Whats going on trav? You know him?" Vic breaks the tension slightly confused by how they knew eachother. " Yea you could say we know eachother Vic. Meet Theo Ruiz my former captain and the guy who let my husband get killed 4 years ago. Travis responded angerly not taking his eyes off of Theo. Before Theo could say anything back Travis walked away into the loker rooms to get changed for shift before talking to Maya about Theo.

"Montgomery what can I do for you?" Maya said as Travis walked into the Captains office. "I need to talk to you about Theo Ruiz." Travis paused waiting for Maya to respond but she only nodded for him to continue. " I dont know of you saw in his file but we used to work at the same station 4 years ago. The same 4 years ago and station my husband died with. He was the reason Micheal was killed, he didnt do his job as his captain and got my husband killed I cant work with him Maya please!" Travis ended in almost a pleading tone hoping to convey the way he was feeling to her without having to show his real emotions. "Im sorry travis I really am and you can work aid car until we can get another fill in which I will request one but until then theres nothing I can do." She said with a saddened look on her face. "Yeah okay." Was all he could say. Travis knew there was no reason to argue with her on this matter there was nothing she could do. "Travis im asking this as a captain and a friend are you going to be okay to work with him." She said before he could walk out the door. " yea ill be fine Maya." she gave him a slight sad smile fefore returning to her paper work.

Travis went into the common room completely ignoring the look from vic and Theo who were talking on the couch. He honestly admired Vic for trying to be accommodating and friendly but he wished she wouldnt be. " Jack im on the aid car with you today." Travis said when Jack walked into the room. "Okay sounds good."

Time skip to dinner time

Travis decided that the only time he couldnt completly ignore Theo was on a call and during meal times. So thats what he did all of 19 sat down around the table with a bunch of food ready to be eaten. Everyone was hungry since they got called out and didnt get to finish lunch so they all dug in and pills food onto their plates. "Hey Travis hows Coop doing? I havent seen my godson in 4 years? He must have grown up a lot since he was a newborn when..." Theo trailed off after receiving a death glare from Travis obviously striking a nerve.

"Whos Coop? Im confused." Ben was the first to ask breaking the short awkward silence. "Oh man they dont know Travis I swear man I thought they knew I wouldnt have said anything if..." Theo started before he was interrupted by Vic "Travis who is cooper and why is the new guy you know and hate the only one that know about him?"

And thats it the secrets out. The one thing Travis had kept to himself in the 2 years of knowing these people is out in the open. He contemplates just standing up and running for dear life. Going home and moving as far away as he could never having to fae the stares of confusion from his team the people that considered him family. But he didnt it was now or never time to let everyone into his real world.

" Coop, Cooper is my 4 year old son." was all he could get out before Vic his best friend stoped him. "Im sorry your what? You have a son and didnt think it was information we as a team as a family might want to know. That we might need to know. What if something happened to you on the job how was that  supposed to happen? Just gonna leave us with a million question none of which could be answered."

She continued on rambling shocked by his announcement. She went on till Travis couldnt take it he had to stop her. "STOP! I get it your mad and confused but if you keep going I cant and wont sit here and tell you what you want to know. Im sorry I didnt tell you guys sonner but there were reasons behind it maybe not completely valid ones but there were reasons. I guess I might as well start from the beginning.

Me and Micheal were married for about 10 months when we started talking about kids. It might seem fast but we both knew what we wanted and with our jobs and how risky they were, we wanted to go ahead and start looking at our options. We used a surrogate and did IVF we decided to he would be the biological father of our first born and when we decided to have a second baby I would be. The best decision we made looking at it now. So we got the process started and about 2 years into our marriage we welcom Cooper James Montgomery into the family.

We both took a week off for paternity leave before deciding until Coop was 2 months old we would be working alternating shifts then we had one day to spend as a family. When Cooper was about 3 weeks old Micheal was on shift and they had a warehouse fire call. Ruiz and him went in for a search and rescue and only one person came out of that building alive." They all stared at him in shock bouncing looks between him and Theo. They remained silent giving Travis a minute to breathe before continuing.

"That phone call was the worst thing thats ever happened to me. So after the funeral I couldnt stay in seattle as a now single father of an infant I had to get away. I quite working at the 26 and traveled around the US for about a year and a half until my mom got sick and needed me here. So I bought a new house and got settled applied to a few stations including 19, took care of my son and mom. Once Herrera excepted me here I came here with every intention of telling you about my life, all of life once we all got to that point.

But once I got here and started opening up it all came out so fast about where I used to work and then everyone knew about Micheals death I felt like I needed to have something of my own to protect and naturally it was my son. So here we are. I knew that eventually someone would find out and it would be here never did I think it would be because of Ruiz thanks a bunch by the way. But here we are." And with that Travis got up and walking out to the apparatus floor to call and check on the most important person in his life. Leaving everyone witha mixture of emotions, shocked, confused and just overwhelmed with information.

A/N- Well here's the first chapter it's very roughly edited and not very good but I think it's a good start.
