Adriano shot his gaze over to the car and ground his teeth together. She glanced at him as she heard it, confusion evident on her face. She didn't know what to say, though, to make anything better. It wasn't like this was her fault like she wanted to be followed. And honestly, she wasn't certain they were being followed. But, given everything with that damn car, it was just too odd.
"Let's go," he told her, opening the car door for her. After she got in, she buckled up and glanced at him. "Why didn't you say something?" he questioned and that was the last thing she expected to hear. Why was he accusing her? It wasn't like she knew the car or the people in it, or that they were even after her exactly.
"Excuse me?" she asked, giving him a look, her annoyance level climbing quickly.
"You heard me. You saw the car, but you didn't say anything?"
"How the fuck was I to know that they were following us. I can't even be certain that they are or who they are. I mean, it's a parking lot, maybe they're waiting." Adriano checked his rearview mirror, looked over at the car again, and shook his head.
"They sure don't work here," he told her. He started up the car and pulled out of the spot. "Keep an eye on them."
"Why didn't you see them?" she spat back, her frustration building. He didn't need to be upset with her; it wasn't like it was her fucking job to watch his ass. She hadn't done anything stupid, stayed where she was and did what she was told. She wasn't aware that telling him every little step was important now. Should she even mention all the men that hit on her at work too? That they could potentially do her some harm or some bull shit, right?
"I...." He stopped and threw a glance at her, irritation all over his features.
"Oh, I see, you're making it a habit of fucking up and want to place the blame on me, is that the case?"
"That's not true." But they both knew it was. Not that it was intentional, because it wasn't, but if anything happened to her, the blame was on him, and they knew that. She wasn't sure how she could save his ass on this one.
"Look, if they wanted me, they had the perfect chance," she said.
"Not in daylight and not there. You didn't see it, but there were tons of people that were there, and any potential kidnappers would have been seen. No, that would have been stupid. And honestly, I'm not sure wanting you is what they want exactly." She turned and slowly looked at him.
"Why do you think that? Is there something I don't know about, again, and probably should?"
"No," was his one-word answer.
"No, there's nothing, or no, I shouldn't know?" she asked, her brow raised.
"No, you probably shouldn't know it." He glanced around again, as did she, but she saw no car. So, maybe it was just a strange chance that the car was there. Maybe it was waiting for someone or maybe they were workers in a nicer car. Really, anything was possible, and it wasn't right for her to draw conclusions. With a sigh, she leaned back in the seat and crossed her arms. She was over this shit.
"It's my God damn life, right? I'm not Sara, I'm not some half-wit. I'm fat, not stupid or blind. So, be a little more open with me and share what the hell is going on." His eyes cut sharply to her, and the clenching of his jaw gave her every indication that something in that statement had set him off. "What, what the fuck bothered you?"
"Don't call yourself fat! And I know you're not stupid, but again, it isn't something you need to worry about."
"If it's my life, Adriano, and it's about me, I have every right to worry! Non mi interessa davvero, ancora una volta, quello che pensi tu o mio padre! (I really don't care, again, what you or my father think!)"
