Previously on 'Ghost of You':

There in the distance, with a sickening boom loud enough to be heard over the rain, buildings came crumbling down...

-----
Katsuki POV:

I could feel the bile rising in my throat. I shook my head, trying to push back the visions coming to the surface of my mind.

"Izuku, I have to go. I'll fight the villains; you take care of evacuation. No matter what, I can't let you near them. Even if I get hurt, don't come for me. This is the one time where your only option is to run, you can't fight this one Izuku," I desperately pleaded.

I took his face in my hands and pressed our lips together, wishing for this all to be a dream, but the taste of the polluted rain on my lips made the reality strike harder.

"Wait- what?! No way! It's my job as a hero to save and protect! You are not going to fight them alone! I don't care about some stupid dream, I always win, you know I do! And if my death is what it takes to save humanity, then so be it! I will fight to the death if I have to and take those bastards down with me!" Izuku shouted, pulling away.

He then jumped off the roof and used Blackwhip to grab the kids and civilians as he guided them to safety.

"Wait! No! I can't lose you, Izuku!" I choked out as I reached for him, but my words were drowned out by the sound of collapse as the earth in the distance was being split down the middle. It was too late. I-I have to save him, no matter what it takes.

I could feel my salty tears stinging the little scrapes in my cheeks, but the adrenaline and this overwhelming sense of protection overtook any pain taking place.

I immediately jumped and used my explosions to close the distance between me and where the perpetrators were most likely located. I continued surging forward, dodging buildings and falling telephone wires as Izuku was distracted with saving civilians from being trapped or injured from the debris.

I rushed forwards in the hopes that the other heroes were coming with backup for Izuku and could get everyone to safely.

I finally reached the predicted location of where these bastards were hiding and searched to see any sign of who exactly was attacking. I have no doubt that it's Shigaraki, and I won't let that bastard kill the man that means everything to me. Damn it. We shouldn't have been so lax and should've stayed on his trail without letting him get this strong. Shit, shit, shit.

I did my best to hover, but the lower I got, the harsher the winds and the stabbing needles of rain seemed to get. It's almost as if these conditions were specifically made to be against me. Soon I was able to catch sight of some movement in a cloud of dust, as well as a flash of...green? Since when did Shigaraki wear green? What exactly is going on here? It was nearly pitch dark and I can't see much.

I plummeted my way into the cloud, succeeding in knocking down my green-clad target. The dust from debris began to slightly clear as a sickening laugh could be heard from the man in my grip. My vision cleared and I was able to get a good look at the cause of this nightmare. My eyes widened in shock and I stumbled backwards slightly.

"S-Shindo? What are you doing? I thought you were in the hero course at Shiketsu high? What's going on?" I blurted out in shock, only to get a crazed look with a saccharine smile in return.
