I used to be a normal, mangy stray, but that was before. Before the explosion that lit up the sky and changed the city forever.

I was sniffing around an alley, I frequented this one; mainly due to the fact that it was behind a cafe called 'Jitters'. They threw out food often.

I was on my hind legs, peering into the open dumpster, it was empty. I cursed the truck that stole my breakfast as I fell back onto my four legs.

As I started to sniff around, I heard the back door of the coffee shop open. I quickly ran behind the dumpster, people didn't like dogs. Especially ones that dig in dumpsters.

I heard heels click over to the dumpster, a woman then. Probably a waitress. I heard her toss a bag of trash into the dumpster with a hollow thud.

I crawled out as she started to walk away, kicking over a can in my pursuit of the trash bag.

The heels stopped and quickly turned around with a startled gasp.

I was already on my hind legs, peering back into the dumpster. The bag smelled like muffins.

I heard the heels cautiously walk back over as I jumped into the dumpster.

I ripped into the bag, jerking my head around to tear it apart. I could feel the woman watching me as I started to sniff at the contents of the bag.

The heels drew closer before the lid of the dumpster slammed closed, the light disappearing instantly.

I gave a loud yelp before trying to escape.

The lid of the dumpster wouldn't budge, I could hear the woman on the phone. "I found a huge dog behind 'Jitters' eating out of a dumpster, could you send someone to pick it up?" I heard her ask.

There was silence for a moment, "Great, I trapped it in the dumpster," she said, her heels clicking back to the door.

I stopped trying to push open the dumpster lid after my head started to hurt.

I grabbed a muffin from the bag and moved to a back corner of the dumpster, quietly tearing into my treat.

I could hear the woman who trapped me pacing the alley, it was incredibly annoying.

I heard two sets of steps enter the alley, "Did you call in a dog?" a man asked.

The clicking of her heels stopped, "Yes, I did. I trapped it in the dumpster," she informed them.

The two sets of steps stopped outside the dumpster, there was silence for a few moments before the dumpster lid opened, letting in light.

I bared my teeth with a growl as I saw the two men. I knew what those uniforms meant.

I ran to the other side of the dumpster and jumped out, stumbling as I hit the concrete before I started to run, straight out of the alley.

Pedestrians gave startled yells as I ran past, I could hear the two men running after me. Their steps were getting farther and farther away though.

I turned down another alleyway before slowing into a walk, this usually lost them.

I heard steps enter the alley, it seemed it wouldn't be working this time. I started running out the other side of the alley, it was relatively empty, so I hauled it across the street.

I was halfway across the second lane when I heard a car honking, it was the last thing I heard before everything went dark.
