Kori's POV:
--------------
It was six o'clock in the morning when I woke up to the sound of my alarm. I sleepily rubbed my eyes, jumped out of bed, and put on my fuzzy slippers. Today was an important day, because it was my first day of my junior year!
This was my first day of school in California too, since I had just moved there a month prior. I was still getting used to living in America and all of its customs.
I left my new bedroom and walked into the kitchen. On the counter, I found a note written by my sister. It said 'Out late with friends, won't be back until tonight -Komara'. I frowned while I read her note. I was worried about her, she had not been herself since the accident. However, I needed to focus on getting ready for school.
I quickly made some scrambled eggs with mustard and prepared my outfit. I had known what I wanted to wear for weeks by now, but I needed to make sure everything was perfect! After I finished eating, I put on my attire, brushed my teeth, and did my hair. I left it down, since that was how I usually styled my hair. I double checked my backpack, made my lunch, and cleaned the apartment.
After completing all of that, I still had twenty minutes to spare before I needed to leave for the bus. I sat down and read a few pages from the book I was reading. It was a story about an alien princess who fell in love with a human boy. I found it to be quite a fascinating book, although I was only a few chapters in. I had never really had feelings for a boy before. Yes, some males were attractive, but no one was ever meant for me. A part of me felt a little envious towards the princess and the boy, since they had each other, and I had no one.
My chain of thought was interrupted, however, when I saw the time. I needed to go! I swiftly grabbed my backpack, phone, and keys as I headed out the door. When I reached the elevator, I saw another person standing there. She looked like she was going to school as well! It was a girl with black, wavy hair and pale skin. She was wearing a red top with a jean skirt and black boots. I walked up to the elevator and decided to introduce myself. It was the polite thing to do after all.
"Hi, my name is Kori!" I said. She turned to me and smiled.
"Hey, I'm Donna. Nice to meet you!" she replied. Donna seemed to be a very nice person. I smiled.
"Are you new here? I don't think I've seen you around before." she asked.
"Yes, I moved here from Queensland, Australia one month ago!"
"Oh wow, I've always wanted to go to Australia! That's so cool." Donna said. Just then, the elevator door opened. We both stepped inside.
"I'm guessing you're going to floor one too?" said Donna. "Yes! Are you going to school? I am going to Jump City High." I asked. I was excited that I met another girl who looked to be my age. Ever since the move, I had not spoken to many people besides my sister and little brother...
"Yep, I'm a Junior there. I'm sure you'll love it. It's a pretty good school." she smiled. The elevator door opened once again, and we walked into the lobby.
"Hey, if you need someone to show you around, I'd be happy to! You seem really cool." she said.
"That would be wonderful! I shall see you there!" I replied, with excitement in my voice. I was so happy that I made a friend! Donna was wonderful.
"Nice, just meet me at my locker, it's number 1965. See ya!" Donna said. And with that, we parted ways.
I walked to the bus station with a smile plastered to my face. Yes, I was nervous, but I was also bursting with excitement. Komara used to always say that I am an optimist. I try to find happiness in everything, and today was no exception.
When I arrived at the bus station, the bus was already there. I showed the driver my pass and boarded. There were only a few other people in the vehicle, and all of them were much older than I was. I quietly sat down and waited patiently. It was only a ten-minute ride, so I did not wait for very long. When the bus came to a stop, I jumped up and scurried off, making sure to thank the driver. After walking for a few minutes more, I saw it. My new school!
People were swarming all around, greeting their friends and classmates. I felt butterflies in my stomach as I reached the wide set of stairs that led to the front entrance. A few people gave me looks, but I was not going to let them get to me. However, one girl with red hair and freckles would not stop glaring at me. I quickly went inside so she could not see me anymore.
The interior of the school was as crowded as the exterior. The halls were filled with people! I could barely manage to get through. My locker number was 1980, which happened to be close to Donna's! This made me feel better. I checked my map and headed towards my locker.
I was so concentrated on my map that I forgot to pay attention to my surroundings. By the time I had looked up, it was too late. I had tripped on someone's foot. Yikes. I was about to hit the floor when someone caught me...
And this is where all of my troubles began.
