Such an odd time of events, Y/n thought as she shoveled that last scoop of dirt to create the new grave a new body will call home.Taking her dark top hat and putting it on after the day's hard work, she dust off her dark clothes and head back to her place of business, and probably the only place where she will work till her last breath.
People fear and awe at death, that one was obvious, seeing their loved one pass on either it was natural, intentional, or even accidental, they always had that same look she saw whenever her parents were running the undertaker business.
Y/n paused as she looked at an old photo in black and white, their they were, a smiling happy family in front of their place of business with them are 3 kids, of course the oldest one was her.
The other two kids had moved away with families of their own, they sent letters but over time the many became few, and Y/n never heard from them after their parents passed away.
Y/n didn't know but didn't care, as long as they were living happy lives, she is contempt with being alone.
Y/n's eyes quickly shot open when she heard a strange sound coming from outside, it was probably those grave robbers.
Y/n put her shovel in a makeshift holder, grabbed a lantern and her pistol, and hurried out before the grave robbers tried anything funny.
She peered out into the darkness, no movement, not even the crickets made their tune known in the night.
Y/n began to move around her pistol ready to scare off the intruders that dared disturbed the dead, she sneered at the thought of stealing from the dead, only cowards could do it and these cowards will meet a grisly punishment from her if she ever finds them.
The strange sound was heard again but this time it felt like it was coming from behind, Y/n turned around and she was knocked out.
Y/n woke up, in a room, but not in any room she knew of, she was still when someone entered holding a bowl that had various weird shaped food.
The being paused and stared back, also surprised, Y/n saw that they had more longer ears a more rounder face.
"Who are you? What's going on?" Asked Y/n the person approached and placed the bowl of fruit on a wooden, primitive table.
Y/n was then explained that she was found injured by the crystal of truth when she came to Thra, Y/n was taken aback to learn that the person, or gelfling, was a species that were in the early forms of civilization.
"But do not be frightened, mother Aughra had taken great care along with the urskeks." Said the gelfling.
Y/n was a bit confused as to how she even got to Thra but not questioning the fact that she got here, but after getting out of the bed the gelfling was quick to offer her some fruit.
Y/n got it and began to eat it easily and made sure to say her thanks to the gelfling, the gelfling's ears moved as they smiled, almost like a child getting praise from their parents.
"So what are you? Do you have a name?" Asked the gelfling as their eyes shined in curiosity.
"I am Y/n, an undertaker, but since I'm sure you probably don't know what my profession means, I basically bury the dead." Said Y/n.
After Y/n was done with the questions from the curious gelfling, she left the room and saw that it was a small village with many more gelflings that were carrying crops, metal, and clothing.
"So you finally wake from your slumber? Surprised are you?" Said an old crone with horns, on one of her hands she has a horn as a finger.
Y/n was then soon introduced to the urskeks, and not used to the bright light that radiated from them, she covered her eyes.
But it was a positive encounter, after having more time, she became a sort of acquaintance to them sharing the fact that they came from another world.
Though she had no intention to change anything, it seemed that the gelfling wanted to learn more about how she buries the dead.
Though she was taken aback about them so eager about a topic that was usually seen as morbid in the eyes of her own kind, she agreed to teach them.
From preservation to putting in the things that held dear to them, the gelfling were in awe of how Y/n teach them.
Being with mother Aughra and Urskeks, them talking about vast amounts of knowledge of the stars the predictions and most often concepts of upgrading the way the gelfling lived.
But Y/n quickly noticed that one being hated the urskeks, or a more correct way of the being's feeling was that he didn't trust the urskeks or their plans.
Raunip
As Y/n was burying an oldling as per requested by the family, Raunip appeared before her with a suspicious gaze, obviously he wanted to know her true intentions on why she even came to Thra.
"I don't know Raunip, to be honest with you, I don't know why or how am I here, all I know was that I was knocked out before even coming here. Is that hard to believe?" Asked Y/n.
"Honestly Raunip I don't think that I should even be here, influencing the way the gelfling, that are still forming. If it makes you feel any better you can hate on me, seriously though I can tell when people want to say insults to my face." Said Y/n.
Raunip's crossed arms softened a bit, he did hear the sincerity of Y/n's story, after a bit of more questioning, questions became interesting conversations and conversations led to a friendship with the two.
Though it seemed that someone, or rather a group was keen on keeping Y/n by their side the more they got to know her.
Acquaintances to a friendship of the urskeks, but suddenly one day Raunip ran to her and told her about the urskeks true reasons on why they were in Thra, they were exiles.
Of course that would explain why they were here when they could've just left.
But that doesn't explain why she was here.
Though Y/n was a bit doubtful of Raunip's words but she knew by how he was speaking so desperately and quickly that he was telling the truth.
But that wasn't the weird part, no matter how many years, she seemed to remain in the same state when she arrived to Thra, her body never aging.
But she never expected that Raunip to go far, he gathered a mob of angry gelfling against the urskek until Aughra swiftly stopped it and scolded Raunip, angered by Raunip's actions.
Y/n wanted to reach out and comfort raunip but recoiling from reaching out, she began to avoid the urskeks, it was unsettling, their glow and presence was not heartwarming, it was cold and uncomfortable.
Y/n sat alone on a stone as she carved a figure out of wood.
"Why have you avoided us, Y/n?" Asked an Urskek, SoSu, the wisest of the group and the unofficial leader.
Y/n ignored him but her hands shaking tipped of SoSu, in all his trine with her, he knew that she was afraid of him and trying to find a way out of this conversation.
One misplaced cut made Y/n's hand bleed, she hissed in pain before feeling her hand getting healed by SoSu, his hand now holding Y/n's hand gently.
Y/n still looked away, but now conflicted, the urskeks have helped the gelfling, but they also lied about their true reason why they were in Thra but Aughra knew.
But Y/n did tell him of her concerns about her doubts and also not knowing what to believe, SoSu listened carefully and patiently.
"You need not to worry Y/n, though it was improper of us, we promise you that it wasn't our intention to deceive you and lose faith in us, we are truly sorry." Said SoSu as both of his hands wrapped around hers.
After he left Y/n paused as she held the wood carving that was in a slim shape, reminding her of SoSu's words.
Y/n grabbed her knife and began to carve.....
