Egypt was happy.

She sat in the front seat, staring out the window, watching buildings, trees, and everything else pass by with a smile on her face for hours.

There wasn't fear clouding her vision, anxiety suffocating her lungs, or anything else she was so used to dealing with in the comfort of her home. There was nothing but good vibes, great music and not to mention, her girlfriend in the back sleeping peacefully.

"Sooo, you gonna come on tour with me now? We could use a saxophonist."

Egypt pushed the butterflies in her stomach to the side and shrugged lazily.

"Oh, I don't know, 'Siris. I ruined my sax."

"We can get you another. Plus I know that wasn't your only one."

"Yeah but...Mom got me that one." She sighed again, still upset with herself for being destructive.

"Well...I know she got you more than one. For now, we can get you a new one for new beginnings."

Egypt liked the way that sounded. New beginnings with a new sax and possibly, a new career.

Everything she was feeling was new. From the pain and aching hole in her chest, to the admiration she felt for the girl sleeping in the back, down to the happiness radiating from her pores from being out in the fresh air.

"Thanks for doing this." Egypt said quietly with her eyes still trained on the trees passing by as they drove on the highway.

"Anytime, sis."

Osiris grinned from ear to ear. He didn't tell his sister the promise he made to his mom before she passed but he had every intention on keeping his word and so far, he was doing a great job at it.

Their mother was devastated when she found out about the attack and trauma her daughter had suffered. Even on her deathbed, it was all she could think about. She made Osiris promise to be her watchful eyes as well as Egypt's peace and protector. All she wanted her daughter to do was be happy and free.

And now she was.

Egypt sighed and closed her eyes. She accepted the visions of her mom's radiant smile behind her eyelids and bit back the sobs ready to be released.

For a while, the two siblings drove in a comfortable silence. By 6pm, Egypt's stomach started growling and she finally acknowledged the fact she was tired. Without her adrenaline pumping from the excitement leaving her apartment brought, she was tired enough to sleep for a few days.

"Are you hungry yet? I'm starving. I know Karma's gonna be hungry when she wakes up."

Osiris smiled, listening to Egypt talk with a grin on her face. He liked the way her face lit up every time Karma's name was mentioned. It was nice seeing his sister smile again.

"Yeah, go ahead do your thing your in the kitchen. I'll find a place to stop for a while."

Egypt nodded, unbuckled her seatbelt and walked to the bathroom with a smile on her face.

I can't believe I'm really outside of my apartment, she thought for the hundredth time since they hit the road. By the time she was ready to cook them chicken fajitas, the RV was parked and Osiris had disappeared into the bathroom himself.

"Mmm, are we done driving?" Karma asked sleepily as she entered the kitchen, rubbing her eyes groggily. Egypt's heart fluttered when she laid eyes on the girl.

"I dunno but I was hungry so we stopped so I could cook."

Karma closed the distance between them and wrapped her arms around Egypt in a much needed hug. Since she spent the last few hours asleep, it felt like they had been apart for much longer than two or three hours.
