Trigger Warnings: Violence, language, spooky themes at the beginning of the chapter
You know the feeling of deja vu, where you swear you've done something before or seen something happen before as it's happening? Well, that feeling is pretty much your whole life. As far as you remember, at least. Reliving the same worlds, the same versions, whatever you might call them, of the underground over and over gets repetitive quickly.
Resets, or whatever you would call the strange time loops, happen almost daily for you, with only one thing to warn you when they happen. A small flower will appear and touch you, and then everything is gone. Or, if you're not lucky enough to live through a day (or more, depending on your luck) you'll 'die' and come back to that black void. One day, you're in the underground full of kind, wonderful monsters with a steampunk aesthetic, the next you're running for your life, the very next you find yourself in the void of space. Speaking of which, I should probably get to the point and just describe what's going on with you right now, Y/N.
AHEM.
The adrenaline runs through your body like blood, your heartbeat sounding so loud you can't tell if it was actually your heart or a wardrum. Your throat is burning. Where are you again? You turn and look around. Oh, right. You're in hell. Or you might as well be, with the not-so-kind reception you are getting so far. The creature chasing you let out a howl, and you can't help but wonder if it's the last sound you would ever hear. Suddenly, you hear the footfall behind you go from four legs hitting the ground to several more. You turn around and immediately turn back to look forward, trying not to scream. After all, the last time you did that, it only attracted bigger, less friendly monsters. The singular wolf has called its companions, and now there are around eight chasing you. Shit, shit, shit, you think. What to do, what to do, what to do? You can hear the heavy panting and the scraping of claws getting louder by the second. A branch snaps under your foot, almost making you lose your footing. Keep yourself together, Y/n. Okay, what are your options? You run through the choices in your frantic mind.
Option one; try and just out-run the monsters.
You turn around and get another glance at the deformed, huge beasts. Ragged black fur so dark it seems to reflect not even light, with huge scars covering their muscular bodies. You have no doubt in your mind they could tear your fragile soul apart within seconds. You wonder if you could outrun them...Nope; they're much too fast and you're much too fatigued from hunger. You hear them sniffing you, smelling your flesh. They chomp at your feet as you stumble on another branch, barely missing your leg. Option two; try and climb a tree or find a cave to hide away.
Nuh-uh. These monsters are too hungry to merely give up on just a tree. You wonder if they can climb- with those huge claws, they might in fact be able to. Even if they couldn't climb, they would wait. You saw it in their too human eyes; that burning hunger, the animalistic need for something, anything to fill the gaping maws.
It'd been less than a week you had been here- you didn't know exactly how long (kind of hard to tell time underground) yet you were beginning to feel it as well.
You remember Papyrus warning you about these creatures, telling you that 'if you died, I wouldn't be able to put you through any more of my sadistic and horrible puzzles! And that would be a shame, wouldn't it?' You wonder if Papyrus would help you, if you could find him.. But then, he was unpredictable; what if he died by the wolves or something?... You know that Papyrus is strong, though. What if he doesn't help you at all? Merely walks away and leaves you to die, to pick at your scraps later and eat the remains? Wait. Could Sans help you? You consider the idea. What has he done at all to help you, though? First, he stabbed you through the hand, practically scared you out of your skin several thousand times, then he let papyrus find you after forcing you to hide behind a rotting corpse, and then he tried to tear off your arm. You shudder at the thought of that big, ruby red eye, with that tiny black dot in the center, widening and retracting like a lens.
