Chapter 1
The darkness in which I was surrounded in both comforting and disturbing. The stage between both sleep and being awake. Some say it is also the stage between life and death. However, in this state, I could feel a tug in my mind. As though someone or something was pulling me back to consciousness and away from the mid-stage.
I am, however, a very stubborn person. I don't give up easily. So as the tugging in my mind grew, the more I resisted. As I resisted longer I could feel heat licking at my skin. It was getting hotter and hotter. I could hear cracking as well.
'What is that?' I thought to myself as I slowly grew more curious as to what it was. Soon I was allowing the tugging to pull me out of my state of mind. And back into the conscious world of Humans and Creation.

My touch sense came back first. I was instantly aware of the high temperature.
Then my smell sense came back and I noticed the smell of smoke. I must have left my window open. Sometimes the neighbour smokes late at night because he has a hard time sleeping.
After that my hearing came back at the same time as my taste and sight. I was stunned. I was in complete shock as I stared at my bedroom. The air was dry and stale. My flower infested wallpaper was being burnt as the orange flames licked it off the walls. I could taste the smoke in the air which made it difficult for me to breath but still I stayed on my bed. Why you ask? Because I was scared. The cracking of the flames was clear.
None of that brought me to move. No. What did, was a scream. A blood-curdling scream. Jordyn! Ignoring the flames destroying my room, I removed my now foul covers. I shot off the bed, in my batman pyjamas by the way, and dodged out of the way of my flaming rug. My bear feet hit the floor hard and every time they touched the parched oak floor boards my feet scraped against them. It didn't feel very nice but my sister needed me. Hell. My whole family needed me.
I reached the door and I reached for the door handle. Before my hand touched it I whipped it way. WHAT WAS I DOING? What did crucial crew teach me? Wow I never thought that would come in handy. I touched the back of my hand to the handle and felt a burning sensation on it. My reflexes caused me to flinch away.
I had to get to Ben so I did the first thing that came to mind. Screaming a war cry, I ran towards the door. As my shoulder came into contact with the door, it basically crumbled to the floor. It seemed as though that the door, no matter how weak, was the only thing holding up the wall above the door.
The wall above the door came crashing to the floor and I managed to jump out of the way of most of it. My foot pinned to the floor, I quickly covered my head with my hands in a protective way. I could hear Jennie screaming now. No matter have badly we got on I would never have wanted her to die. Not like this. I hadn't heard my parents yet so maybe they are already dead. The thought sent chills down my spine.
Shaking my head of those nasty thoughts, I pushed the rumble clamping my foot to the floor away. Now what? Can't go through the door now. I could see the hallway. The walls were beginning to crumble and the wooden floorboards began to crack and fall to the rooms below. How much can the floor take before it all just collapsed.
That's when I noticed. Ben's room. No noise came from it. The door was still closed and the flames were just dancing around it. Almost as if there were a barrier. I had to get to that room.
Breathing was getting difficult as thick black smoke clouded the air. I lost sight of the corridor so I ran to the window. Outside there is a ledge, I have used it many times to sneak out when I was grounded. It goes to the wooden structure which allows plants to grow up and around it. And that is just a leap away from Ben's room.
Struggling with the latch on the window, I paused. As soon as I open the window the fire is going to dive for the oxygen. Ben. I have to do this for Ben.
I don't know why people do this. I understand if we are going to jump into water but when we aren't, it just seems weird. Never the less, I inhaled a deep breath then pushed the window open. However, not once did I let go of the window. I let it swing open carrying me with it.
I can feel the small amount of wind push against my face for a second before I feel the hard brick wall. I had forgotten about the wall. Damn it. That hurt. As the flames flooded out the window I noticed the window I was holding on to had caught fire. I was lucky that the window didn't break with the impact of the wall but now. Well, let's just say I need to get my ass onto the ledge.
As I removed one hand from the window to reach for the ledge my other hand slide down the window causing the hand I just removed to whizz back to the window as a reflex.
Suddenly I saw movement out the corner of my eye. So my being me, instead of focusing on getting to the safety of the ledge I turned to see what it was. You all probably think I'm an idiot but that is what I did. A small smile slid onto my face as I thought of the line from Harry Potter: The Chamber of Secrets, 'She needs to sort out her priorities'.
Anyway, the movement that I saw was in fact a man. He was wearing a black hood and black clothing. Weird.
Not sure if I was getting my sense back or I was just being stupid and asking to be killed I shouted out to this guy. "HEY! HELP! HELP! FIRE!"
He stopped. He turned and looked at me in my pyjamas. I could see his whole face but I did see his mouth as it curled into an evil grin. Did h- Did he do this? He took a step in my direction but apparently my luck was returning as a couple of lights turned on in my neighbours houses. They heard my screams. YES! He looked at them and began to back up. Just before he sprinted away he gave me another grin and I watched his back retreating
"FIRE! HELP!!" I screamed again to make them hurry. More lights turned on. And I say doors opening.
I then heard the loud cracking of wood and realised the window wasn't going to hold much longer. So instead of reaching I jumped to the ledge as the window fell. I saw everything in slow motion as I leaped to the ledge. I heard the slow screams of my neighbours as they shout at each other to phone the police, the fire brigades and the ambulances. Then, one hand at a time, I touched the stone and gripped it tightly.
My body, once again, came into contacted with the wall. I gasped out and my neighbours squealed at me to be careful. Oh I never thought of that. I thought sarcastically.
However, apparently the ledge wasn't any better than the window as it crumbled under my hands causing me to plummet to the ground. A scream escaped my lips and I fell. This time, though, time didn't slow down. I shot to the floor and on impact I hit my head on my mother's garden stones.
I couldn't register the pain. I have never blacked out before. Nor have I fainted. I have read about it but what happens next is not what I expected. I let my eyes close to dim the spinning world and darkness flooded my vision but when I opened them again seconds later I wasn't outside my house but in a white room, on a white bed, with wires and needles poking into me.
